Honestly, I think the only way to understand is to watch it for yourself.

I think the 25 almost resembles a Norfolk & Western K1 class 4-8-2.

Its SUPPOSED to be a Great Northern Class 08 2-8-2 Mikado with some heavy modifications.

I know, but I did some research and some comparision pictures with both the 25 and the K1 and they're a complete match.

I even did a journal about my theory:
HEY ARNOLD! Engine 25 theoryHey fellas
This idea had came to me.
Many fans of Hey Arnold (some of them train enthusiasts) say that Engine 25 in the 1996 episode "Haunted Train" is based off of ether a Great Northern Railroad 4-8-2 or a 4-8-4.
One fan speculated that Engine 25 resembled a USRA light 2-8-2 Mikado!
But if you ask me. I did some research and looked at some physical references and here's my hypothesis. Engine 25 is based on........A Norfolk & Western K series 4-8-2 Mountain type. Lemme explain.
When I looked at Engine 25, I noticed the front of the engine looked familiar but I couldn't put my finger on it. That was until I came across an N&W K1 class 4-8-2 Mountain. I looked at engine 25 and noticed that it had a squarish sand dome. Some of the N&W mountains also had the same dome. Engine 25 tender was also resembling an N&W design like you would see on the J class 4-8-4s, Y series 2-8-8-2s,

Nope. I prefer MLP trains to be non-sentient.
