the german thumb thing, okay^^
there are two explanations i found.
1) According to old germanic beliefs the thumb was the lucky
finger and a symbol for a troll.
So when you press your thumb between the middle finger and index finger
you keep the troll (which are bad little creatures) at bay and with that
bad things happening to the person you press it for.^^
(i had to look that up)
2. It was the gesture of the audience in the roman gladiator games to ask
the emperor to save a gladiators life.

a lot? Because it was a thumbs "up" for death
and not a thumbs down like most think...so people
are doing the wrong thing with their thumbs, hehehe!

Put your hand with your palm facing you...now press
your thumb to your index and middle finger and hold
it there, pull the remaining fingers into your palm
...now shake your hand toward you then away
from you within a 12inch area, while still holding
your fingers together...now say (with an Itailian
accent)"What did I tell you"?
