TOWNSPERSON: What the hell is that thing?
PALEONTOLOGIST: Well that's actually a very interesting question. Charles Walcott classified it as a jellyfish, and it wasn't until Briggs and Conway Morris dissected the fossil that it was found to be an entirely new phylum. I should mention though that now, many paleontologists believe that it isn't so strange, after all, actually representing a very basal member of phylum arthropoda. Specimens from China seem to bear out this theory.
