Description
Digital, Corel Painter, 2016.This is just some weird trippy experiment. Didn't mean to put too much thought or effort into it, but I enjoyed it quite alot.

Thank you. Trippy, strange, weird, surreal... Itβs all in the same realm.

For some reason I find the beady yet wide eyes oddly adorable and the floppy looking ears look cute to me as well. The way you layered the colors gives the skin really prominent depth and texture, it feels as though you could reach out and touch it. It looks so vivid and alive, is there a particular backstory you had in mind when you were making this?

No backstory whatsoever...
i just doodled a bit and ended up with a shape that turned into a monster/creature. Thing is i can never do "just a monster", it needs to have more dimennsions to it. The eyes could be nasty soulless insect-eyes, but the ears and the tender and caring gesture of the creature suggest a non-monstrous characteristic. I always try to use elements of contradictive nature in my images, have them play against each other to create something less predictable.

I wonder what he thinks of... He looks kinda sad or... Maybe just adores the flower?

Well, the dandelion is basically a weed, right? So, it's not really an attractive or precious object. But look at how gentle and delicate heΒ΄s holding it and how close he gets to look at it. What does that tell you?

Well... I don't know. I don't think of any plant as something useless or unnice or even as trash, because all of them have their use, as herbs and I love to work with them.
And also the way their very cells are built are so similar to animal or human cells. (Look up eukaryotes and prokaryotes, if you want to know.)
It's not like they're objects, they are something as livid as any of us is.
But... Maybe he feels sympathy?
Like in, he feels he's stigmatized by the same kind of stereotyping mindset society has, when they say dandelions are nothing but weed?

Maybe...
I tend to paint things that are a bit contradictive/contrasting, like the cuddly monster or hideous beauty. In this piece i just doodled away and ended up with a kinda fleshy and weird creature/monster, and that happens very often for me. But just s monster is too simple, too onedimensional. I added the hands and dandelion just to bring some innocence/softness to it, which are seldom associated with nasty looking monsters. In this piece i think that his fascination and gentleness might act as a reminder of the fact that it's all about perspective. Where we see weeds, someone else might see a flower for the very first time. Just as we see a monster when we see something unfamiliar/strange? It's just a thought and not something i had in mind when painting it. I just like duality in character and tone, and can't help but to flip things over once or twice. If you look at my other stuff you might see more of that.

Yes, I already did read in the description that you didn't put too much thought into it.
It's just... mostly the pics on Deviantart are just nice. They're amazing, beautiful, full of skill or at least full of art.
It happens not very often that when I look at a picture I ask myself a question about what's in it. What the person depicted might think.
(Maybe because when it's about persons, I mostly favourize hot anime..... errr...)
Well, this time, the question just jumped at me. Like: "Awww, look at his eyes and the flower, what's going on with him? :3"
It's like one wants to hear the background story.
And yes, I think I already watched you, but I guess I better check again, since you had indeed some very fascinating stuff.
(*checks* yes I did )
I just love that contrast of something dark meeting something average or even something most people can relate to.

I'm glad you enjoyed making this cause I'm really enjoying looking at it. It has a very odd vibe to it it's almost cute its expression with its tiny close-set eyes.
I don't know how you do it!
