My half of a trade for iATC.Two Japanese red-crowned cranes. I'm not sure they can actually be found in that foggy mountain terrain, but I thought it looked pretty, so there they be

Lovely work, and there is so much depth in this little painting!
I really like the symmetry of the painting, with the two cranes facing each other and feathers, I can imagine them performing their courtship dance and arriving at this moment for a second, only to change and dance some more. The two birds look quite realistic, especially around the eyes and beaks.
The only thing I might have changed is actually to increase the thickness of some of the lines, possibly around the moon, but not by much. I like the use of thin lines especially around the tail feathers to add detail. The only other thing I might suggest would be to vary the trees on the hillside a little more as they appear too similar to each other to me. I like the use of fog in the valleys to suggest early morning. The style is quite reminiscent of the ukiyo-e (Japanese woodblock prints), and I like that the colours are subdued like the style.
Oh yes, and the kanji is spot-on - tsuru for crane. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="

Thank you so much for your critique! I definitely agree with you about the line thickness (though some of it could be that there was a slight tremble in my hand when I did it, so it's not quite as smooth as I usually do).

Yeah I find my hand trembles slightly too sometimes. I have to say though it's not really noticeable here.

Well those birds are showing some true love for true, and like how you replicated the art of the old Japanese wood block paintings in a decent fashion.

The terrain does look beautiful. The cranes look lovely, and the sunset atmosphere compliments their colour quite well. The coloured pencil has been applied very smoothly, so that it almost looks like a painting. Actually, the style here resembles East Asian brush painting, with the thick outlines appearing like ink strokes and the blending of colours in the mountains, trees, and fog much like the coloured pigments. I have tried my hand at both coloured pencils and the Chinese brush, though far more of the former, and I find it impressive that you have successfully replicated the appearance of brush painting in a western medium.
