This is awesome, the only problem, getter dragon, and getter poseidon are the same bot. just different forms.

haha. I have to admit, I am ignorant of the Getter Robo G franchize. I knowthey look cool, and were pretty cool Shogun Warrior toys when I was young.

But, every time I searched these guys, I come up with three characters that combine into one huge Getter Dragon. The 3 characters are the two that I pictured (Dragon and Poseidon) and a third blue one called (Liger). Also, there were seperate toys when I was young.

So...is that accurate? Here is an example of the pictures that I come across...

Separate they were 3 jet like vehicles called the getter machines dragon, liger and poseidon, depending on the formation they are in they can combine into 3 different robots, if dragon is in front liger is in the middle and poseidon is in the back, they form getter dragon, If it's liger, poseidon and dragon, in that order they form getter liger, if its poseidon dragon and liger, they form getter poseidon, www.youtube.com/watch?v=AbGUGQOZofA I was born after shogun warriors and never watched a 80s or 90s dub so you can ask me anything about super robots.

Earlier today I did find a Youtube link to both Getter Robo and Getter Robo G and saw in the intros how that worked. I like the G version of Poseidon way better than the tankish version. Thanks.

Your welcome, and technically every getter besides G has them simply called getter 1, 2 and 3, less confusing if you ask me.

Wow, knowing the whole 1, 2 and 3 thing cleared up quite a bit during searches. I wish there was a nice "Giant Robot/Kaiju" wikia somewhere. So, did the names Liger and Poseidon come at the Getter G series, or did that always exist?

Yes, dragon liger and poseidon, did come from getter G, and getter G is the second getter robo, the first of course is simply, getter robo.

Yeah, nobody really liked the original Getter 3. Everyone's entitled to a few bad ideas. Luckily, later versions of the Getter 3 managed to use the tank leg style to better effect.

Okay, here's the deal; Getter Robo G, like its predecessor, is a combining mecha that disassembles into three Fighter Rockets and can recombine into one of three forms (Dragon, Liger or Poseidon). In the Epic OVA, Shin Getter Robo Armageddon, the Getter G was mass-produced by its creator and used to form a massive amalgam called the Shin Getter Dragon, which became the McGuffin of the series. Like G, Shin Dragon could change forms, though it simply morphed into the Liger and Poseidon forms. I highly recommend it. It's arguably one of the best animated versions of the Getter Mythos. Just keep in mind, I think the first three episodes were meant to be a standalone OVA, so the writing is a bit rushed and clunky and the English dub for those episodes really dropped the ball. The rest is pretty tight as far as writing, plot and translation goes and it's certainly a classic of Mecha Anime.

So, yeah, this scene actually could happen.

Awesome, thanks. I wish I had better access (and time) to see those, and if I did, I still wouldn't know which ones to watch, there are so many.

Armageddon, Mazinkaiser, Mazinkaiser SKL and Kotetsushin Jeeg.
I'd start with SKL if you're pressed for time. It's only three episodes.
