Description I drew Roberto from the Capcom game "Rivalschools" for Because ruphia was my 100,000 page viewer.

I'm still practicing my drawing skills, a bit more now even, but I still just don't like what I'm creating with my pencil skills. Hope to get some real art classes after college.

In anycase this one's for you ruphia!

Dammit, Dan, that's awesome. The only penciling problem I might point out would be that his back foot looks suspiciously placed.

But other than that, this is oustanding.

Roberto is one of my favorite characters in Project Justice (personality wise, design wise)... I'm just sad that his already hidden face is not so exposed... (thanks prespective )

Anyway.... that's it.. i luv this...

U know what that clearly means?...

Oh... PS... How did you do the grass? It makes me happy ... it's almost life like...

And before i go..

And you're taking in requests!? . Can u please do Haku and Zabuza for mei? Oh shoot.... that's just too demanding of me ne?....

Anyway... here's a reference site for ya... [link] [link for Haku] ...

Yeah sure, I need much practice, These drawing requests are very motivating for me. :]

as for the grass, just go to your brush palette in photoshop, there should be a grass brush. Use the brush option to edit the brush to your liking.

I'll have a tutorial on this very thing, so if you don't mind the wait it'll be up with the website in the summer. Along with a whole bunch of other stuff that I'm not posting.

I think you're worrying too much about your pencils... I've seen how your work progressed since we were on ComixMatrix, and you're involved with some great people on a regular basis, so you're on the right track. It's just a matter of time and practice, man, and you're doing really well.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

danimation2001 In reply to Inkthinker [2004-05-11 17:25:20 +0000 UTC]

That's what I'm worried about, If I'm doing colors, I'll have no time to practice. College is allmost over, I'll get about a day of free time, and then it's back to work again.

It's nice that people like my work enough to disagree with me about it needing improvement, but the truth is that the problems are there, and I keep messing things up on them.

Your right it's about practice, but I'll be damned, I just don't practice as often as I should. It's driving me nuts though.

Inkthinker In reply to danimation2001 [2004-05-12 01:48:20 +0000 UTC]

I feel your pain, BELIEVE me.

Just replace "colouring work" with "animation work", and remove the day of free time.

And it's not as easy as "making time", as some people like to tell you. "Well, if it's important enough, you'll make time."

Like hell, motherfucker. Sometimes there is just not enough hours in the day to handle responsibilities and find the time and energy to improve your skills as well... What are you supposed to do, starve for your art? That's very poetic, and very stupid. If we don't work, we don't network, and if we're not networking in this business, then eventually we're not working at all.

My only advice would be to see if you can push Mark or someone to give you a little pin-up or maybe some short story work... make work and practice the same thing. But believe me, I know it's not that easy.

Battle on, brother!

And maybe move his head so that he's looking down across his chest, under the raised arm.

well actually yeah sure, ask me to draw you something, I need the practice, and maybe this might be a good way to force myself to draw something.

So shoot.

j/k I'll see about the cowboy thing. Never in my life did I draw a western thing... Might make for good practice.

soulrailer In reply to danimation2001 [2004-05-11 18:29:34 +0000 UTC]

euh....didnt expect youd say this, well euh...

you can draw...euh

(hmm i can do this better)

ok well as you say "So shoot"
how about a western pic, some special cowboy shooting indians or other cowboys or something? (but it has to be an action pic, no mexican cowboy taking a nap!!!)

or another idea that was floating in the void i call my mind is to draw your 3 favorite able-to-fly characters in a pic (gonna suggest this in a draw off over at pencil jack but i doubt it will be some day soon... so take a shot if you want

got me kinda surprised there mate,
but now i hold you to your word!!! cowboys or fly guys you can choose and if you dont i will hunt you down and hit you with a giant pencil (cause thats what you fear so much )

greets, Soulrailer

Art classes.... in school? They have that?

Wish I could, but guess what? My crappy college cancelled the illustrative track. That was a nice swift kick in the nuts for me. Being that that was my real reason for attending college.

and yeah you got me, I was lazy  but I'm actually going to go back to this redraw the head and replace it over that one.

was wondering how to comment on this as i loved it so much and had spent about half an hour drooling over the detail and the lines.. and i decided id scroll down and read some of the comments youd already been given, to spark ideas on what i could say.

well this ~cheeks-74 character has it right, bro.

and i quote:

Dan- this looks amazing...aside from your mad skills as an artist colorist, your pencils are tight as well. the energy is there, however I would have loved to have seen the player's head looking down over his right shoulder to show more focus and determination as if he were about to kick the shizzle out of that ball. all in all solid man solid!

leme try add to that.

having played soccer a fair bit in my life id have to say i like the angle of his head actually. i think you caught the moment brilliantly. the swing.. the momentum. the entire swoop of the body. you can just see that foot wacking the ball halfway across the field with that kick, and the ball itself is beautifully blurred.

and as always. your coloring skills (degrades to a l337 noob) pwn 3v3rything

danimation2001 In reply to b33lz3bub [2004-05-11 15:14:33 +0000 UTC]

Thanks man, I did get some comments about people thinking that the arms should be in the opposite postion, but I didn't think that that's how people look before kicking the ball. Because when he kicks that ball the arms are going change positions to give more momentum. Having it the other way would give no momentum.

I will change the head like he said to see how that looks. I'm curious as to how it would look.

But as for the arms, I like the way that they are positioned.

And since you seem to know more about soccer then most who have critiqued about the arms, I would believe you more on that.

thanks on having faith in my suggestion on the arms - yeah you did a great job portraying the full swing of the kick as he backs up to take it, and id say youve done that well n_n

cant wait to see the version with the head looking the other way
