How many pieces do you color a day, every day?

If you want to improve you're going to have to be realistic. What I mean is a month isn't enough time to improve and get to where you want to be unless you're speedy gonzales and can whip up 100 detailed high quality pieces a day.

A month isn't being realistic.

Just do as many as you can in a day. After school, go home and work on atleast 3 to 5 pieces a day. Put in details, work at 400 dpi or 600 dpi. Etc. Ask around on what to do here and there on specific question that you might have.

Improvement takes much longer then a month. It can take years if you're only going at a rate of a few pieces a day. And to be honest if you rush it and do more, then you'll just be setting yourself up to be only capable of handling speed colorist jobs. Very sloppy work with rushed results. Nothing special about that except for getting the job done as quickly as possible.

Take your time and learn right from what works and what doesn't.

Try these out.

And just so you know, a tutorial isn't going to up your skill level. It's only through practicing what you've learn do you begin to improve. etc etc.

Hope those help a bit.

every once and a while my wacom pen wont work correctly in photoshop....

the pressure wont work i can push hard and i can push soft and it will go the same, know how to fix that?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

danimation2001 In reply to ARRABALunlimited [2006-11-01 22:08:16 +0000 UTC]

Well you might need to check out your "other dtnamics" option located in the brush palette window. Check to make sure that your brush that you're having the problem with at the time, has the "pen pressure option turned on.

Maybe it's on maybe it not, I can't be sure specifically about your problem though to find out how to fix it.

Actually not doing a bg with the pencils is probably the worst thing you can do. Believe me I've done it, and it doesn't prep you for the work that you will be doing. It just disables you from doing Backgrounds traditionally.

Thus the reason for me quiting coloring sequential work and wanting to learn more about art, Back grounds included.

In order to really nail BG work, I learned from another artist that you have to love doing bg work. Make it something that you'll enjoy doing.

That's what I intend to do when I get the free time needed to learn more and study art.

Your colouring technique is amazing, everything looks so solid and real. Yours is definately the kind of competence I'm going for with my colours, but it'll take ages. Compositionally I think it's a pity the foreground foot gets cut off but that's a small gripe, but this is still a seriously impressive image. well done

danimation2001 In reply to Duffzilla [2004-12-08 22:01:48 +0000 UTC]

well this is an old piece.

It took me I think two years to get to that point, and now it's two mroe years later. It's really about practicing and sticking to it. which is probably why the composition isn't very well done on that piece. Pencil skills need to improve which I'm working on right now. Colors are at a point where they are good enough as is, now I need to work on my illustration skills, I think a good 4 more years will do it.

It just takes time.

Your colours aren't just technically at a professional level but they're really personal and that's inspiring too.

Definately right about tie and practice, luckily I'm not lackin enthusiasm for it yet though so it's still cool to feel like I've improved every time I finish something. The DA gallery's actually a cool way of charting your progress.
