i like how you get no response. really shows the road DA's going down.

Exactly! I've stated this before that they're ignoring anyone who has anything negative to say. It feels like one giant corperate circle jerk where the only ones they're actually listening to are the ones who are blindly backing this change.
e
And anyone who's sitting there trying to legitimately get them to see things they're doing wrong, or how they're slighting communities in their user base, gets ignored like a child shoving their fingers in their ears pretending they don't hear anything. It's pathetic and degrading for a company like Deviant Art who has been a wonderful art website, albeit with a userbase that can be quite toxic depending on where you go, to pretend they know what we as a userbase want out of a website. Just because you want to modernize something, doesn't mean you have to do it in a way that makes a good portion of the people using your website want to leave. I mean look at what happened to tumblr! Their stocks and website visits dropped substantially because of what they did and Deviant Art is going to go down the same road if they don't stop pretending to be blind.Β

I wouldn't be surprised if they are forced to say this answer from Wix, and it's Wix that won't allow CSS and HTML.

Yea that sucks. It's like the whole tumblr debacle trying to be more family friendly for advertisements. Parent companies need to back off and let things breathe or they'll lose so much money.

oh but they "don't think it's fair for a community of artists, that requiring a technical skill allows them to make profiles look better that artists without these skills -- or without the time to learn." *major sarcasm*

Don't know if you've seen this but thought I should shareΒ

LordBlackLotus In reply to Sakairi-chan [2019-06-27 01:51:41 +0000 UTC]

No I haven't but it makes me more angry at their decision. Just because not everyone knows how to code doesn't mean they should get rid of that feature. I don't know how to code. I use premade code things and use google to figure out how things work so I don't screw anything up. It's not hard to learn how to add these things first of all and second of all, you don't have to make your profile fancy if you don't want to put the effort into it. It's an option for a reason.Β

And I agree with anyone replying on that comment.Β

Sakairi-chan In reply to LordBlackLotus [2019-06-27 01:58:12 +0000 UTC]

exactly!
there are plenty of free resources around that people can find
I honestly had to step away from my reply and reword a good bit of it I was so livid at the reasoning.
and the fact there's only one custom you're allowed to put on your profile

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

LordBlackLotus In reply to Sakairi-chan [2019-06-27 02:12:03 +0000 UTC]

I heard they were going to allow you more, but I don't want this website to turn into facebook 2.0. It's a website for art, sure there's amatures who post a lot of things that aren't high quality or what most people consider good art, but that doesn't mean you have to turn into mediocrity for the sake of trying to be fair to everyone. That's not being fair to everyone that's shooting yourself in the foot for the good of the whole.Β

I pay core for certain things here on DA and the fully customization I have now, is one of them and they're treating us like we don't know anything or know what we want. It harkens an image of some parents always choosing everything for a kid and never knowing anything about them because they think they're always right.Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Sakairi-chan In reply to LordBlackLotus [2019-06-27 02:21:55 +0000 UTC]

If this turns into that over art, I will be gone immediately. I joined for art, of all levels; to see and enjoy it and if I make friends that's a bonus.
Another thing about making it "fair for everyone" is it removes some incentive to better oneself, you lose that challenge in a way.

But yes I agree wholeheartedlyΒ
I chose core for HTML and custom journals to match my profile, cause I wanted a specific aesthetic and it's becoming increasingly infuriating the more they basically ignore us. That image though is the perfect analogy for this whole eclipse debacleΒ

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

LordBlackLotus In reply to Sakairi-chan [2019-06-27 02:43:57 +0000 UTC]

Exactly! I agree 100% with all of that. Hell, I remember doing cringy RP's on my old account through chat of all places and meeting some good people through that. It should be about the art first, everything else is a bonus. Sure this has as heft social media aspect to it but that shouldn't be the focus of the website.Β

Dude yes. I've literally gone and looked through HTML tutorials to learn how to get certain code things to work on my profile and edit things to my liking. I have zero coding knowledge outside of bits and pieces of HTML/CSS for profile things on various places and even then it's all tweaking pre-mades. It's simple if you want put the effort into making it look good.Β

Yeah that's the other thing, journal customization is a wonderful thing. Especially for those who use it for their commission lists and group stuff. Not to mention all the group customization that people do with HTML.Β

I don't know any other way to describe it really and it's sad that it's happening this way.Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MBirdCZ In reply to MrWitchblade [2019-06-27 18:21:39 +0000 UTC]

Because they would have to support multiple branches of code... Which I understand from a development point of view, however, it does not change a bit on the fact that I don't like Eclipse, I don't lack the reduction in features compared to the theme we have now that is being tried to be marketed as improvement. That is also why I plan to leave as soon as my Core membership runs out... I was planning to do that last year already, but some anonymous bugger donated me a one year Core extension... Sigh....

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MrWitchblade In reply to MBirdCZ [2019-06-29 16:44:25 +0000 UTC]

I look after a couple of sites, and both are multi-skinned\themed.
Since each are module based, there is no extra work for me.
Just a case of tweaking the colors to how members like.

It makes you wonder how DA is put together if they make such a big
thing out of not doing it.Β  Β Could just be a badly built site, or
those doing the work are incapable of doing it.

Either way, eclipse sucks.

Not for profile pages but i'm jumping in to say more HTML options in journals would be very helpful....stuff like being able to use the HR tag, align everything as you wish, use float aligns too, all sorts of things to make our journals look more inviting and pleasing...

Those were just some examples off the top of my head, but thank you for the reply , I think overall my message is just, think of adding more ways for us to let our journals stand out and organise them well, especially with groups like projecteducate that's a huge must. I don't mind there not being skins anymore, but the text itself needs more variety in how you can edit it, colours could be great for example, different types of block quotes, the ability to make columns of text, so many options that help us make BEAUTIFUL journals that invite people to read them, and that don't exist right now in Eclipse just my 2cents

oh and, resizing thumbs the gallery grid thing only works if you add stuff to your favs, and the images are still quite big, or are cut off, and you can only add stuff from the same fav folder to a gallery grid, its a very tedious process

It's very annoying to have to switch to a different page to see one or the other.

Thanks.

No. I asked and I got a response that said no because of their other customization features they've added.

MattsyKun In reply to LordBlackLotus [2019-06-27 00:02:03 +0000 UTC]

That's actually disappointing. I love my custom boxes; I put a lot of time into making it look good, and I"m going to lose all of that?

The day Eclipse is official and we can't go back to the old site is the day I leave DA.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

LordBlackLotus In reply to MattsyKun [2019-06-27 00:07:55 +0000 UTC]

Exactly my point. I pointed that out and got no reply about it from staff. They're going to alienate a whole group of people from their new site; those who make code for profiles. There's a whole large community on here that makes HTML code for profiles and what not. Without that in the new site, they're going to essentially force them out and there's some who make money off of these things. It makes me sad to see this happening honestly and angry no one is actually listening to us when anyone brings it up.

πŸ‘: 1 ⏩: 1

MrWitchblade In reply to LordBlackLotus [2019-06-27 16:01:03 +0000 UTC]

I still think DA should be a multi-skinned\themed site.
So many people like the current site, (including me)
and don't want to be forced to something we don't want.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

LordBlackLotus In reply to MrWitchblade [2019-06-27 16:16:52 +0000 UTC]

Yes that would be lovely! I'd love to have themes for it instead of just a light and dark. Its easy enough for some forums to implement, why not DA?Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MrWitchblade In reply to LordBlackLotus [2019-06-29 16:46:29 +0000 UTC]

I look after a couple of sites and they have multi-skinned\themes.
Easy done, tweak the colors, every one happy.
I think the DA site is built badly and might not be able to run
such modern things as multiple options.
