Premium Members can now use Google Analytics to get meaningful insight about the traffic to their deviantART Profile! Using our new Google Analytics integration, you can access comprehensive statistics about your audience, traffic, and art.
Get Deeper Insight Into Your deviantART Traffic
By enabling the feature on your profile, you can now use Google Analytics to get a better grasp on the deviantART experience that you’ve created for your audience!
- Understand what types of people are organically drawn to your work. Where do they live? How long are they on your page?
- See the impact of the marketing you do outside of deviantART. When you share your deviantART work and links in other networks and sites, you’ll be able to track the traffic back to your Journals, Gallery, Profile, and much more!
- Understand what your visitors are looking at when they’re on your Profile and even for how long! Sometimes visitor trends are unclear until you can see the bigger picture.
- Evaluate the difference in attention you get for some types of work versus others.
- See a direct correlation between your marketing activities to deviation submissions and spikes in traffic to your Journals, artwork, or Profile pages.
Learn More About Your Audience Knowing who is engaging with your Profile can help you make decisions about where to hang out, what Groups to join, and other things you might want to share with your audience.
Watch Realtime Activity Flow To Your Profile
Google's realtime reports allow you to sit back and watch activity happening on your content right this second.
View Traffic Stats For Your Content
Google Analytics allows you to dive into traffic stats for deviations, Journals, Galleries, Collections, and other areas of your Profile Page. See which deviations are the most popular today and find out where that traffic is coming from.
Track and Analyze Your Watches and Favourites
Our Google Analytics integration tracks when someone watches or adds your artwork to their favourites, allowing you to view charts and statistics of these events. How many favourites did Reddit traffic give you this week? How many new watchers did you gain last weekend after submitting your newest deviation? Did you gain more watchers this month or last month?
Favourites and Watches are available under Google Analytics' "Events" reports.
...And A Ton Of Other Reports
Here's just a sample of some of the stats you can see:
- Traffic charts, graphs, and statistics by date
- Traffic demographics (geographic locations, languages...)
- Visitor stats (new visitors, returning visitors, time spent on pages, number of pages viewed, bounce rates...)
- Top sites and social networks sending you traffic and, for some social networks, the individual posts that are linking to your content
- Search engine keywords people are using to find your Profile Page and content
Measure How Your Activity Impacts Your Audience Growth
Google Analytics can help you make decisions on how you manage your deviations. It can also allow you to see the impact of your on site activities.
- If you find that your audience is more active on certain days or times, you’ll be able to determine a schedule for posting new art or Journals.
- Perhaps you’ll find that the more you comment, the more you see your pageviews and watch list jump.
- If commenting, and critiquing others’ artwork for example, helps increase the level of activity on your Profile, perhaps you’ll decide to do this more frequently.

Simple, DA offers these things to people with premium so more people want premium, and they make more money selling more premium. That is why it's 'always' premium.

You don't know how wonderful this is... I've had a stalker coming to my page even after I blocked her, and she's intent on sending her friends to harass me on tumblr, and now I can see when she's been stalking me better!
I have a question: it says in the agreement that if the hits number more than 10 million in a month (or was it thousand?) we get billed... so does that mean when we sign up that we HAVE to pay google something if we get a lot of hits? Some people on dA are really popular and although I can't imagine 10 million hits on my page (or 10 thousand... I'm not very popular) should we not sign up at all if we don't want to pay an extra "hit fee"?

I don't quite see how this will help you to stalk a stalker. The data is anonymous and in summary form. You won't actually know if or when she's in the data.

Yes, I found that part out, unfortunately -____-'
I was wondering if the analytics could tell me more about who's specific profile had been around, but if the info is there I'm too stupid to find it if it's a big involved thing, I'm not bothering. I don't have the patience to stalk her back. Better thing to do.

I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that the data is anonymous, so you can't get any details about individual user accounts.
The ordinary 'Visitors' window in Deviant Art will tell you who has visited recently, but that won't help if they have the 'invisible' setting active on their user account and I think it only shows the most recent 5.

On the top of the 'Friends' menu, which is at the top right of the DA page, there is a drop down list. If you set it to Invisible then you do not show up in the Recent Visitors list when you visit someone's page.

I didn't think so, but with being able to use it on multiple sites (if I read correctly) means that it's not just limited to the hits you get on dA. Plus some big public scandal (for better or worse) might get someone a whole helluva lot of attention. I figure that won't ever happen to me, but it was a concern.
As I understand it now that I've asked a few people, if that happens, google asks you to sign up for a paid premium and shuts off your analytics until you do.

I wondered about that too...
Especially since NOWHERE on the 'Google Analystics' Website are any prices shown. In fact, aside from their bussiness terms, there is only ONE pages that mentions that using this service isn't free all time.
Plus, it says 10 million 'hits' instead of pageviews. And a 'hit' isn't only registered, when someone visits your profile. A 'hit' is also taken (for example) when you're using the 'demograph traffic'-feature, because a 'hit' stands for a registered activity.
That would mean, that one visit to your profile can trigger several 'hits'! (As long as the user uses more than just the counter (that displays the number of the people that visited your profile))
So you don't need to worry about your stalker too much because she will probably have a few financial problems, as soon as she's finished setting this up. (It could be that 'Google Analystics' will move her status to 'premium', which means 150.000$ - per year! But I'm not sure about that. It's mentioned on the website that they want to persuade you to get 'premium' when you're over 10 miollion hits per month...)
What I don't understand as well is why deviantart integrates 'Google Analystics' instead of programming something like this on their own! Seriously, it's not THAT hard!
All you need to do is to create one or two new pages, put some standart display text, put some pointers (that displays certain numbers, taken from your account data), create one or two graphics (linked to some data of your account) - THAT'S IT!
With all due respects, but programming something like this is one of the easiest things to accomplish!
So why 'Google Analystics'? This programm/service is meant for companies, developer and mostly for commercial uses! That's why the interface is so difficult and complicated build up. It's pretty normal when a company hires a few IT-specialist to set up such complicated programms, so it wasn't necessary to make them'user friendly'.
Fazit: Don't sign up, unless you have the money >,<

After asking around, it seems they don't bill you, they just shut the analytics down if you don't pay the "10 mil hits" bill. And if they do take anyone to court, they can't make it stick. Plus, I'm REALLY REALLY poor, so the media can have fun crucifying Google for targeting some really poor person who can't even afford an inhaler for her asthma (seriously--I don't even have hot water... but I have cold water
)
I signed up, but I can cancel anytime. I don't get much traffic each day, so I always see my stalker's profile avatar in my "visitor's list."
So, technically, dA has their own tracking system, but it's not as thorough as google analytics. If they did get it, only premium members would be able to use it. Which I am, but I think everyone should be able to see who's been looking at them. Especially when it's a security concern.

Okay, this good ^-^'
I didn't know that and on google website (or their bussiness terms) isn't any explanation for what will happen if you crossed the '10 mio'-mark.
By the way: I know, it's not my business, but about your stalker-problem... Did you try consequently ignoring her (including blocking her and her friends)? The more answers you giving to her and her friends (and the more journal entries your writing about them) the more less are the chances that they will stop. So maybe ignoring her will cease the fun which she gains through stalking you.

Scintillant-H In reply to Lodre [2014-03-21 14:15:01 +0000 UTC]
I don't think my stalker is having fun, as she seems the type to just rage about things.
But you're right when it comes to normal people; they should just ignore the bullies/stalkers. I deal with them, but that's not for everyone, and I tell normal people all the time that if they can't handle the stress, not to deal with it. If they can't keep their calm and learn to laugh at it all, then they're only going to screw up and/or let it hurt them.
The stalker's friends aren't bothering my after that one comment they made (they realized they can get in trouble for being hostile) and she hasn't said anything to me herself, either. She just pops in every day since the incident.
I'm weird... but it seems that my stalker didn't check in with me yesterday, so maybe she's moved on-? I was also hoping that if I tried to laugh at it all (they say to laugh at yourself when you have bullies ) and tried saying a small nice thing or two to her (via my "HELLO STALKER" comments) she might take something good away from it. She's got anger issues more than anything, so she's not really a "troll", just some girl with temper problems. I've got her blocked, but as long as she's coming in to 'watch' me, maybe being kinda nice to her will help her some.
Or maybe I'm just stupidly optimistic. Either way, she can't hurt me.

Okay, you're right.
I just tried to vague calculate how to come over 10 mio hits and you really need to have around 67.500 visitors a day (with at least 5 registered activities).
But it still makes me upsets that these hidden costs aren't mentioned in the news or that the fee for crossing the 10 mio hits is nowhere mentioned on 'Google Analystics'-Website.
