I know, it has other advantages and services. Still... Google analytics? That is a third party free service that should work on free accounts with little work.
Why do you need a premium account to use them then? Well, my hypothesis is the following.

Premium account statistics got me completely unimpressed when I tried them. Google statistics are far superior to premium account statistics. Therefore the conclusion is obvious: dA can't allow you to use for free a service that would provide you with better statistics than premium stats.

The problem I see is an ethical one (and maybe legal too, i don't know), as a free service from a third party is been used as part of a service that is sold to users.

As much as I'm glad that DA has now allowed for the use of google analytics, It feel it's a bit of a dick move to make something that is otherwise free (google analytics) and making it a premium feature only here on DA.

I think you can only set it up with certain websites, which is why they haven't implemented it into dA until now.

They have to live somehow. Other sites use 10000 ads (even because many people use adblock)... so it seems like this is better for deviantart... but now for us obviously.

yeah some ads because not everyone is premium (like me). But it's fine ^^.
I'd prefer no premium but ads like the other sites actually (obviously not ads spam damn it). If they aren't following this way, i guess there are some motivations though.

I don't want to talk you out of this, but seriously....
I have Premium membership and I've tried this thing out. I can't see that it's going to be of too much use for me and looking at your activity stats on your home page, you get around the same daily activity as I do.
I work with stats and I love them if they are useful, but in a lot of cases, they just cloud the issues.
For me, that's what the GA stats against my DA activity would do.
I might change my mind if I ever considered selling stuff from DA, but that is never going to happen. The place is too unstable for my liking.
