Premium Members can now use Google Analytics to get meaningful insight about the traffic to their deviantART Profile! Using our new Google Analytics integration, you can access comprehensive statistics about your audience, traffic, and art.
Get Deeper Insight Into Your deviantART Traffic
By enabling the feature on your profile, you can now use Google Analytics to get a better grasp on the deviantART experience that you’ve created for your audience!
- Understand what types of people are organically drawn to your work. Where do they live? How long are they on your page?
- See the impact of the marketing you do outside of deviantART. When you share your deviantART work and links in other networks and sites, you’ll be able to track the traffic back to your Journals, Gallery, Profile, and much more!
- Understand what your visitors are looking at when they’re on your Profile and even for how long! Sometimes visitor trends are unclear until you can see the bigger picture.
- Evaluate the difference in attention you get for some types of work versus others.
- See a direct correlation between your marketing activities to deviation submissions and spikes in traffic to your Journals, artwork, or Profile pages.
Learn More About Your Audience Knowing who is engaging with your Profile can help you make decisions about where to hang out, what Groups to join, and other things you might want to share with your audience.
Watch Realtime Activity Flow To Your Profile
Google's realtime reports allow you to sit back and watch activity happening on your content right this second.
View Traffic Stats For Your Content
Google Analytics allows you to dive into traffic stats for deviations, Journals, Galleries, Collections, and other areas of your Profile Page. See which deviations are the most popular today and find out where that traffic is coming from.
Track and Analyze Your Watches and Favourites
Our Google Analytics integration tracks when someone watches or adds your artwork to their favourites, allowing you to view charts and statistics of these events. How many favourites did Reddit traffic give you this week? How many new watchers did you gain last weekend after submitting your newest deviation? Did you gain more watchers this month or last month?
Favourites and Watches are available under Google Analytics' "Events" reports.
...And A Ton Of Other Reports
Here's just a sample of some of the stats you can see:
- Traffic charts, graphs, and statistics by date
- Traffic demographics (geographic locations, languages...)
- Visitor stats (new visitors, returning visitors, time spent on pages, number of pages viewed, bounce rates...)
- Top sites and social networks sending you traffic and, for some social networks, the individual posts that are linking to your content
- Search engine keywords people are using to find your Profile Page and content
Measure How Your Activity Impacts Your Audience Growth
Google Analytics can help you make decisions on how you manage your deviations. It can also allow you to see the impact of your on site activities.
- If you find that your audience is more active on certain days or times, you’ll be able to determine a schedule for posting new art or Journals.
- Perhaps you’ll find that the more you comment, the more you see your pageviews and watch list jump.
- If commenting, and critiquing others’ artwork for example, helps increase the level of activity on your Profile, perhaps you’ll decide to do this more frequently.

Hi - and thanks for the reply.
I don't think DA has told anyone to go and find the free stuff elsewhere. DA has decided to not make its implementation of GA free and some people are saying that as a result they will exercise their right to go elsewhere. Personally I wish some of them would - we might stand some chance of getting this place back to being the community for artists that it was when I joined 7 years ago, instead of it being a second rate social networking site, which is what it has become. I wouldn't mind this so much if DA had strengthened its infrastructure accordingly AND, probably more importantly done something to discourage the verbally abusive attitude that seems to be becoming the norm here as it attracts more and more anti-social networkers.
I also don't think that DA doesn't like criticism - I don't see any evidence anywhere that they care one way or another about criticism.
I'm sure you will continue to moan and groan. You have the right to do so. I also have that right. We also both have the right to express criticism.

It was just a reaction to one of your "why" questions in the list. I didn't mean to engage you specifically, after all, we're talking about a third party here (dA).
I do agree on your other few points - there seems to be no distinction between genuine criticism and blatant verbal rape of somebody's art. The line seems to have faded recently. Everybody's a critic, everybody's an expert. God forbid you tell them they exaggerated a little bit .. (its kind of ridiculous when I see 15 year olds criticizing a paid pro-artists' work like they are talking about a 3 year old's drawing piece). There's definitely something that dA has to do about this.
The spamming thing - I'd like to get genuine mail here, from shit I either watch, or users that like to speak in private with me for XYZ reasons, not some random user, who I neither watch nor have favorited anything, getting me bombarded with chibby art, MLP, or heinous photomanips.
Art theft - They don't take it too seriously as they should be. They are in fucking /art business/ after all. Disgraceful.
Definitely the criticism thing - I just got above a big juicy post of "you don't know jack shit" from some random Mr. dA Veteran who I could swear the way he addressed me, he might as well have been one of the disgruntled staff of dA for all I know. And its because of people like that, that dA doesn't care about criticism, neither to take in consideration, nor to address it and do something about it, exactly because they have loyal users who will jump on anyone who says something even mildly critical about the website, as if its the Holy Grail. If it was indeed that, among all the art websites in the world wide web, we've lowered our standards extremely low.
Lets continue to moan, groan and whine

I've read through a few pages and haven't seen someone ask yet, how do you track favourites and watchers? I have it all set up and it's working perfectly, but I can't seem to find any default stats or custom options to do with tracking favourites and watches like the image posted here under "Track and Analyze Your Watches and Favourites"
Thank you ^^

See how neat and clean this blog post looks?
Please, consider changing the background color for the community.
The not-neutral, gaudy, ugly green is NOT optimal for viewing variously colored images. It skews the viewers' perception. Some shade of gray or white is best. Art shows true colors and stands out best against a neutral background. I understand that the green is part of your "brand." That's fine. You can keep in the header menu and footer notes and still clean up the rest of the website.

A significant number of people are too sensitive to stark white backgrounds, so light colors make it physically easier for them to view Web pages.

I am not going to "aruge" with you too, because it is a waste of energy. I requested a neutral background. Grey, dark grey, and black are all neutral colors. Light green is NOT neutral. Does it make sense now?

I do agree about changing the main background to a more of a neutral color that can make the art pop out, instead of the odd moss/pea green color. But I guess you can count on the app 'Stylish' to change the colors....

Why do people complain about piracy this and that about google and dA... ITS AN OPTION!! If you want in, sign up for it. If NOT, then ignore it, Simple as that. There are some who find GA helpful, so leave them be. No one is forcing you to sign up for GA and attach your dA page to it. I find it useful once I get my store running later on so I signed up for it. Will take a week for me to customized it to my liking.

I think people are getting uptight about this because it hasn't been explained properly. Unfortunately that seems to be a DA trait and it's one that is losing them a significant number of members.
Also it's not strictly accurate to say that it is optional. Turning it on to collect summary stats regarding visits to your page is optional. Having the data about you gathered in the first place so that it can be turned into stats is not optional - DA has been gathering this data for a number of years.
Most people don't seem to be complaining about having the option to view summary stats. Most people seem to be complaining that data about their own activity is being gathered in the first place.
Personally I don't care one way or another. I've turned it on just to see what it does, but I probably won't ever use it because it seems like overkill. As to Google gathering data about my movements, I can't say I like it anymore than I enjoy being followed by CCTV whenever I go into one of our towns or cities, but it's a part of modern life so there isn't much we can do about it, except never go out (or in this context never use the internet)

where can i turn this off? Cause seriously, google has been used far too often to spy on the people, and i am not comfortable about third party relationships anyway, especially not with such a major internet party.
Another thing that bothers me is something i read before, a lot of people feel that DA is losing sight of the goal they started out with, which is letting artists come together on a global scale.
They did a magnificent job on that so far, but hooking up with Google is NOT the way to go forth.
A lot of artist are perfectly fine with being anonymous on DA as it is, and this third party stuff will change that regardless of any option or not.
you can expect a lot of things changing on DA now, as this will probably hang around for a while.
these kind of relation don't start overnight, you can bet they sat around the table discussing stuff, and with the agreement being present, they are probably going to see how well it goes for the moment....

Is this optional? So I can opt out? Is my data submitted to and analyzed by google even if I don't want, or even if I don't have premium?

"To set up Google Analytics for your profile, you will need to allow Google Analytics to start tracking your profile"
So that made it clear

Stats covering activity to your DA site is only for Premium members so unless you have Premium you can't turn it on. That's the 'To set up Google Analytics' part.
From within DA you cannot prevent your activity (visiting other people's sites etc) from being recorded. You don't have any control over this so , yes - your data is submitted and analysed by google even if you don't want or even if you don't have Premium. This itself isn't new - DA have been using GA for some years to collect their own management stats. Apparently you can prevent this externally and there are some instructions within the comments on this journal .

I just blocked GA earlier today unaware of this new situation. I'm sure glad that I did.

I'm not entirely happy about what DA has done or how they have done it, but I think you will find that the data is anonymous. It is summary data, but it does not identify individuals.
