Description
An idea/mockup I made several years ago as a pitch for a developer hackathon.
Have you ever went to someone’s profile and said, “who is this person and why should I care?”
This widget would display your relationship with the artist whose page you're viewing.
Benefits / goals
- Personalizes the deviantART experience
- Shows what's most relevant to a user
- Builds a better connection between users, gives them talking points
- Utilizes data we already have
- Encourages watching new people
Some thoughts / concerns:
- Widget would be fixed on the top of a profile.
- Tells you if the user is watching you. (This was designed before that feature was released)
- The issue with this widget is that it pulls elements out of their expected areas -- friends and groups are listed here, however, there are already existing widgets for them, so these elements might be duplicated on the page. It might make more sense to instead display these mutual connections in the corresponding areas (Groups widget, friends widget, and Favourites page).
- Doesn't really "function" as a widget, but doesn't really fit well into anywhere else on the profile.
- UI is ugly, but tried to be consistent with the current widget UI.

I never told you how much i'd love to have a "widget" like this. One additional thing i'd love to see in there is this: "deviations of them i have +fav'd", and vice versa. It might be a bit overkill for sure, but nice to know regardless. (It could be styled similar to the Groups widget though, where you can flip through via tabs.)

I support pica-ae s idea of changing its nature so it can be hidden when you looked at it already and doesn't always pop up if you don't need it.

This is a really good idea! If dA makes this a widget, I hope that they can make it a functional one that doesn't have that concern list you have there.

I do find it interesting to see how dA is sometimes a very small world indeed. Despite there being so many people here, you see a lot of the same faces and it is like we all know each other ;D

I like that idea 
Maybe it could work like the "welcome" widget on group profiles? Which also has the option to be hidden, so maybe it could be move like that and not like a real widget? So, I see it when I first visit their page and can choose to keep it ot make it invisible. Maybe add an option to show it again; a button next to the "add to watch"-button.
Might by nice, too, if people could decided whether they want it to be displayed on their own profile.
