Hetro thought that the day ending well yesterday would mean he’d be all better the next morning, but he was disappointed to find out he felt… dull. Like the resolution he’d made mentally and emotionally were wiped clean again. Without even getting out of bed, those thoughts plagued him, and he felt exhausted despite just waking up.

He got up heavily and had breakfast, but he procrastinated even eating it, and when he saw what time it was by the time he finished and how tired he already felt, he knew he just wasn’t up for running around all day. All he did was feed Dewdrop, then took her out of her little home to play with her on his bed. Huebey went into the bedroom to grab a change of clothes to go about his own day, turning with a raised brow to see Hetro with the dottiebop instead of doing the same.

“You’re not working today?” He asked as he went to get his cape and shovel.

“Nah.” Hetro shrugged, smirking as Dewdrop rolled into a ball and began bonking against his open palm. He curled his tail around so she could roll around a little enclosed space and not fall off the bed. “I’ll make an excuse tomorrow, I’m just, uh. Yeah.” He blinked and forced a smile as Huebey walked over and sat next to him. “Hey! I’m good, really. You do your stuff.”

“I thought we just talked about you actually saying your feelings, Hetro.” He twitched an ear as Hetro hesitated. “Look, if you need a day off that’s okay. You can say that.”

Hetro frowned, scooping up Dewdrop and tapping her shell so she unfurled, and she squeaked happily before crawling up his shirt. He was quiet while he watched her nestle on his shoulder and nap there. “I can’t help but feel like this is familiar. It… I was pretty much feeling this same way when I figured the stuff out about my, um. Visitor.” Hetro’s face scrunched up as he thought back. It wasn’t exactly the same, in fact he still felt like he was really taking this too far emotionally, but the fact that they felt so similar wasn’t helping. “I basically did nothing for a whole week.”

A familiar nuzzle on his cheek made his somber expression soften a little, and he hugged Huebey with a wing as the folk cuddled closely.

“Let yourself rest. You need it.” Tiny hands cupped Hetro’s face and pulled him into a kiss. “C’mon- I’ll stay with ya.”

“What-“ Hetro fought against his reddening cheeks, blinking at Huebey and frowning. “You don’t need to…” He couldn’t find it in himself to say no outright. He blushed harder when Huebey humphed and ruffled his fur with his fingers, moving his hands up to brush the teal folk’s hair and ears. Hetro purred softly, melting into the affectionate touch. He wished all his bad feelings could melt just as fast in that moment.

“Like I’ll throw away a chance to stay with you.” Huebey gazed at him lovingly, tail swishing gently before curling in and twirling around Hetro’s. “Besides, are you really going to feel better if you stay alone for a whole day again?”

Well, that was a good point. Still, doubt poked at him. “I don’t want to get in the way.” He replied quietly, looking down at his hands. Saying that made something change in the mood for a second, and Huebey blinked at him half worriedly.

“You… Hetro.” His voice softened, which made Hetro wince. Huebey stammered for words before simply pulling his boyfriend into a hug. Hetro slowly hugged back.

“I feel bad. I couldn’t stop thinking about it last night, and now it’s back again and I’m tired of it- I gotta stop.” Shamefully he pinned his ears back, grimacing as he felt the folk’s tail tighten around his and his arms holding him more firmly.

“Don’t talk like that.” Huebey sounded… desperate. In a sad way. “Please.” It broke Hetro enough to shut him up, and he clutched Huebey closer.

Dewdrop blinked awake from all the movement. Squeaking, she nibbled Hetro on the cheek and clambered back down before scuttling off, rolling off the bed with a thump then returning to her enclosure through a little pipe that had been built for her to go up and down with.

“I think I scared her off.” He half joked, chuckling under his breath.

“She doesn’t wanna get squished, she knows.” Huebey took the chance that the dottiebop was gone to scoot onto Hetro’s lap, gently ruffling Hetro’s other wing with a hand to pull it around him as well. “Wanna get more comfy?”

Giving in with a sigh, Hetro leaned back into the pillows and wrapped his wings around Huebey better, smiling at him fondly. Their noses nuzzled and he started purring again. “Only ‘cause you’re… too cute to not hold like a little plushie!” Hetro suddenly squeezed Huebey tight with his arms, tickling him, and the rabbit folk yelped and struggled to get away. Huebey smothered Hetro with a pillow he managed to grab, smacking him softly with it. “Ow! Ow! Okay!” Hetro said with a muffled laugh.

“I’m trying to help and this is what you do!” Huebey huffed annoyingly. He flinched and scrunched his snout as Hetro poked it with a claw.

“Aww, are you going to leave now? After all those sad looks?” Hetro pouted with his ears drooped.

“No. You’re putting up with me whether you like it or not.” Setting the pillow on Hetro’s chest, Huebey rested his head there and got comfortable, closing his eyes.

Hetro sighed but smiled gently. “Already falling asleep…” Even though he tsked under his breath, it was always cute to watch Huebey fall asleep with him.

“Actually, I’m awake but I’m trying to sleep.”

“But we just woke up…” He flinched and shut his eyes as Huebey's hand plopped over his face.

“Learn how to take naps, Hetro.”

“Maybe you learn how to stay up for more than five minutes,” Scowling, Hetro shook his head free of the hand.

Huebey twitched his ears and hummed. “Hmm. No.” Hetro rolled his eyes and settled in better, listening to Huebey despite his feigned annoyance. Sleeping did sound nice right then, and he wasn’t about to walk away from cuddling with his love. He didn’t think he’d fall asleep so fast, but he did, lulling into a nap as the morning drifted by without them.

When he awoke, he didn’t know what time it was. Probably better that way, because in a sense he didn’t care. He felt sleepy and warm, and already felt so much better. Maybe naps weren’t so terrible…

With a quiet mumble Hetro tried to roll over but nearly forgot Huebey was asleep right on top of him, the sleeping folk moving only slightly before Hetro stopped. Thankfully his boyfriend was an insanely deep sleeper and only twitched his long tail before going still. He gazed fondly at Huebey, reaching down to pet his face and smiling as the folk purred and leaned into his touch, caught up in a dream.

Huebey did so, so much for him, didn’t he.
Hetro suddenly thought about that- how much he tried to care for him after the huge breakdown, how despite Hetro trying to keep him away, for perhaps his own reasons and out of worry, Huebey continued to stay, continued to try and help him feel better. Hetro forgot just how closed off Huebey was to the rest of the world, and none of that showed when he was here, with Hetro.

The two were still growing to fully understand the other, but with what they did know, they both did so much.

He lowered himself to nuzzle closer to his boyfriend, full of love to be able to call him that. He really truly did love him- they loved each other.

Hetro didn’t want to lose that. He didn’t want to lose Huebey. He wanted them both to stay together… forever.

He wanted to show it, somehow…

As his hand trailed down to hold Huebey’s, their fingers lacing together and his thumb rubbing the smaller one’s wrist, an idea popped into his mind. It made his chest flutter a bit- would it work out? His own thoughts usually ran so far ahead of what was happening in front of him, but surely this would be fine. He let out a quick sigh and let himself relax. They could talk it out. It’d be fine, yes.

Hetro thought about doing something silly or annoying to wake Huebey up, but really he only felt heavy and sleepy again. Wrapping his wings tighter around Huebey, Hetro slowly shut his eyes and drifted back into napping.
