I grew up with this version of Willy Wonka, and IMHO, he is more likable than the Johnny Depp Willy Wonka.Β His speechΒ at the endΒ may be mean, but that changes when Charlie gave him back the gobstopper, which shows he had kindness, and most of all, he let his family move into the Chocolate Factory, something that the Depp Willy didn't want to allow because of his bad history with his father.
