Danny looked down at the young girl in his arms in horror, not knowing where she came from, not even knowing she was in Amity Park, until he heard her call his name as she rushed in front of him. She had raised her ghost shield at the same time he did, putting her all into her protection, but both of their barriers had shattered when Vortex's lightning struck them; his final attack, given with a curse promising he would not fade into the ether alone, aimed squarely at Danny, and would have succeeded, had Danielle not made herself his last line of defense.
Shaking his head, Danny held onto her, held her close, as they floated high above the city. "Dani!" he gasped, his mind still struggling to process everything that had just happened. "Dani! Hold on! Dani! Come on, Dani. Speak to me. Say something. Please!!"
Tiredly, Danielle slowly opened her eyes, blinking at the rain that fell on her face as he came into dull focus. She felt...strange...different. She knew she got hit, but she didn't feel any pain. Her vision was blurry, but his face was so clear. She couldn't feel the rain, but she could feel chest and his arms as he held her to him. As ghosts, she knew, they were cold, yet, for some reason, he felt...warm.
Meeting his eyes, she gave him a smile. "Hey," she whispered, her voice feeling strangely horse and, despite feeling more-or-less fine, couldn't raise her volume above that. "I...missed you."
Danny took a deep breath, trying in vein to maintain calm as his body shook with growing panic. In the past, when she was exhausted, or her energy was near depleted, she would begin to melt, her body dissolving into watery ectoplasm. His eyes glanced down her frame at what he didn't want to see, her dissipating body as her colors faded to transparency and she slowly began disappearing into the oblivion of the ether. Her feet were already gone and the fading was gradually making its way up her outline legs, which itself was beginning its crawl up her torso to her face.
Continuing to shake his head in disbelief, not understanding, not wanting, this to happen, he turned his wide eyes back to her barely open ones. "Wh-why? Dani, why? Why did you take that hit for me?!" he all but demanded, his feeling of hopelessness overwhelming him. She was fading, and he couldn't do anything to save her. Why? Because he saved her from Vlad? Because he was nice to her? Did she think he was the only one who cared about her? Why did she take an attack that would have obviously ended her?
Huh. Odd. She could still feel his arms. She could still see the rain. The flash of lightning from the storm. But there was no thunder. Why wasn't there any thunder? And why couldn't she hear him? She saw his lips moving. Yet there was sound coming from his mouth. Or from anywhere. It was so quiet. She felt so tired. She wanted to go to sleep. That sounded nice right now. She'd fall asleep. He'd take her home. Tuck her into his bed. Hold her as he dreamed. Be there when she waked. Just like he always did...like he always did.
Closing her eyes, it was so hard to keep them open, she pulled on the last of her waking strength to raise her head and kissed him on the cheek. "I love you, Daddy."
With that, she let her head fall back, and let herself drift away into a nice, long, peaceful sleep...

oh no dani!!! she's fading away!! mabye this is happing to the her because people dont belive in them anymore. well i still belive in them. i love the two phantom's. they are so cool. i watch every episode. from the first episode to phantom planet.

Amazing. I love the rain and how it fades and blurs or whatever you'd like to call it in the distance. It gives it that 'super downpour' theme to it. Good luck!

Excellent craftmanship! The rain and thunder gives quite a bit of foreboding....and poor Danny looks quite scared cradling his "little sister..."
