Description This is the most up-to-date revision of this essay, completed today after some consultation with intellectual-property attorneys, one of whom is a dA member. The article is long, I admit, but the issue of copyright and infringement is complicated and requires great care to sort out. Artists ought to be aware of copyright law and their rights covered under international copyright protections. And posters here at dA ought to become very familiar with what they can and cannot legally post.

It all boils down to this: if you're going to post someone else's work in your gallery, make sure you have permission, even if you intend to alter it significantly for some artistic purpose. Without permission, posting such work is against the law. Read on, if you feel like making an argument.

Thanks for this!
It's in fact a long..but nevertheless important read!
One question though: Is it supposed to end at page 13?
It stops kind of suddenly, while I expected some kind of concluding sentences or so.

Yes, it actually simply stops at the end of page 13. Sorry for the abruptness. In some sense, this is because I anticipate adding to the essay at some point, if/when it becomes important to do so. But also I confess I couldn't figure out a more literary way to wrap it up. I'll give it some thought. At least I ought to let my readers know that their suffering is over!!
