Description Pandemonium (a.k.a. Pandoras Box) 2007
I aimed for pandemonium to evoke different feelings and emotions for each viewer depending on their mood. The intention was that it would be a collection of suggestive images melted together mainly influenced by flower and glass texture (especially Dale Chihuly). I went to Kew Gardens and took blurred and close up images of the sights on offer and then put them together, I then added some ideas that have been floating around inside me to complete the piece.

95% completed- bees will be added to the hive and the torso will be darkened. I will upload the final version in the near future.

Wow, this is indeed very interesting to look at. There is so much to look at and enjoy. It really makes the view spend quite a bit of time looking at the details and such, which is a major plus. I honestly do not know how to describe the overall style, but it looks very cool.

I'm sorry..I meant that the tools used to create much of the digital artwork that we see today were meant to mimic graphic designers, etc....not that the artist necessarily had that intention.

This is amazing, it doesnt look drawn at all And by that I mean it doesnt look as if it was made with human hands

thanks. i aim for that effect. i like it when people think my stuffs done by computer

work done on a computer is usually done by human hands. Most digital artist use a graphics tablet and stylus which mimics a paintbrush, pencil or pen...the person makes the marks....not the computer.
The are programs that create images that could truely be called computer generated, but they give very poor results, and have almost become extinct...and are never used by a serious digital artist. Also serious digital artists rarely use the filters provided in graphics programs for effects. They are obvious, and have a canned look.
I am by no means critisizing you ...just trying provide information.

Why someone might think your work is done on a computer is the extreme color saturation...it can be very hard to get that much color out of traditional medium. And the smooth textures. I am guessing you use ink or marker...both mediums that are easily and most often mimiced digitally. Most of the artwork we see that is digital was intended originally to mimic the pen and markers used by graphic artists, designers, and sometimes illustrators.

As both a traditional artist AND a digital artist I always recommend trying the other medium...shake things up a bit and find out how the other side works by learning to do a bit of digital if you are used to traditional or visa versa.

cheers yeah it is more sexual than my other work. im gradually getting into the idea of incorporating humans into my work and ive had those strippers in my head for a while and thought theyd suit this piece.

I just came across this on the new deviations page! Its you again! Hello! Interesting painting Dan, the more I stare at it, the more I notice. It's certainly well-titled! I dont know if you're into symbology or not, but theres a bit I noticed in here ; the centre of the piece is the bees & honeycomb. Bees have a huge symbolic history - mainly symbolising the divine feminine - they are matriarchal, communal alchemists! Morphing out of this is a hermaphroditic figure (one becoming two opposites) from which are streaming I dunno - reality tunnels?! ( Lots of organic forms below, snails, musical notes, birds, loads of weirdness. Im not as hot as I should be on my sacred geometry so I cant tell you about the sphere, and above all this, you've got a kind of trashy, casino-esque thing going on, which adds to the trippyness of the piece! And I love the way you're peering 'behind the veil' at the bottom with this fixated eye! Cool and fucked up; I like it ! Look forward to seeing the final version

hi naze. sorry for the delay in responding to this, the short comments i respond to quickly but the longer ones take a bit more time (especially as Time has decided to speed up to me lately). the hermaphroditic figure has taken a few forms in this piece. his/its crotch was originally going to be a bomb but i thought this would be too bold and decided to fade it below instead. i aimed for an organic naturalness (especially as my current piece is very mechanical) and the chaotic nature of the piece is partly down to the process of composing it from blurred photos and fragments of leftover ideas. i wouldnt say the person looking from behind the curtain is me, its an image from the side of a photo of some glass, but maybe it could be seen as the composure of the pandemonium world. i dont know when ill finish this as since ive taken a photo of it ive let it gather a bit of dust and moved onto the next piece but maybe it will surface eventually. by the way, the photo on your id looks great. its good when photos click with everything in place. it looks like it was taken in a castle with the black and whiteness excentuating the colours on the face. ive had a bit of trouble with photos lately. people keep taking photos of me on their phones when im least expecting it and then putting them on facebook for the world to see. its not the end of the world as some good ones pop up from time to time. ill comment on your works in detail at some point as youve been kind enough to take the time to look at mine..dan

No worries dude! Thanks for the comment on the ID - yes I see what you mean about the castle feel, ironically, my studio was previously a stable...
