This is fan art I made for Girl Genius a while back (just look at the date in the image!). I could've SWORN I had a color background to it, but I'm also curious to see how a transparent backgrounds turns out on DA*.

I've actually met Phil Foglio on multiple occasions at the 2005 and 2006 San Diego Comic Cons. For some reason, I thought it amusing to refer to him as "hey, it's that guy!" whenever he'd come by the Keenspot booth.

The weirdest thing was in 2006 when I went to buy book 4 from him (would've also bought book 5, but I wasn't aware it was available and hadn't budgeted for it). It appeared he was actually aware of El Goonish Shive and said I did good work. This may not seem like a big deal, but Phil Foglio is someone I grew up being a fan of before EGS even existed, so that was a bit of a surreal moment for me.

Granted, I have no idea how much of EGS he's seen and it may have just been a professional courtesy, but it was still very surreal having gone through high school preferring his artwork on Magic: The Gathering cards and buying certain Magazines (Duelist?) primarily just to read his cartoons.

* The end result is that if you're gonna want to use transparencies, you're gonna want to upload a separate non-transparent thumbnail, or the thumbnail will look cruddy with the blank areas becoming black. As such, I've uploaded a non-transparent version of this image (as DA apparently doesn't let you add thumbnails after the fact if you didn't start with one).
