Description
YeeeeeeessssssI'm really really proud with how these came out! Now, for context.
Sphalerite's First Form comes from her origin story, called "Sphalerite's Sin". You can read it here:
fav.me/dbfsdhr
You see, Sphalerite emerged Defective, due to incubating in the ground in Yellow Diamond's Kindergarten for much too long.
Gems of her type are supposed to be slim, with skin and hair that ranges from black to silver to electric blue. But due to her Defect, something that she had no control over, Sphalerite is fatter than she should be, and has oranges and reds and yellows in her palette instead of the aforementioned blacks and blues.
She has black freckles instead of her usual brown, and her Gemstone is missing a piece in the middle (which renders it as a rounded "W" shape instead of the standard "V").
To add into this, she emerged wearing her bodice on backwards, which is why her cleavage is exposed so. I won't ruin the ending of her story, as you should go check it out to see for yourself what happens.
Now, for the Corrupted Sphalerite.
This concept is purely that: a concept. Sphalerite doesn't actually get Corrupted, thank God, as that would kill me on the inside. This is merely an idea of what Sphalerite would look like if she suffered from the Corruption Bomb like the rest of the Gems on Earth.
The reason why Sphalerite's Corrupted form resembles a rhinoceros is because that's all I've ever imagined her Corrupted form to resemble. No other animal comes to mind, for some reason. So I went with a towering monster. But instead of making Sphalerite a straight-up orange rhino, I incorporated some of her alien body type into it.
She is more muscular than she is fat now, and her forelegs and much bigger than her hindlegs, much like how her normal form has drastically bigger arms than legs.
Corrupted Sphalerite moves around on her front legs, as the back pair are much too small to actually reach all the way to the ground. The back pair actually act similar to a second set of hands, and have opposable thumbs.
That's right: thumbs on her feet. It's a surreal concept, but it works very well.
Her main weapons would be her horns, which she uses to gore those who come near her.

Thank you so much!
The technique I use is called cross-hatching, and it's really fun and interesting to do.
I think your traditional art would be pretty good!

Hey, I think they look really cool! First form Sphalerite has such fluffy hair and it's adorableΒ
Also, I'd like to see what a normal sphalerite looks like, especially compared to the defective gal we all know and love.

Thank you so much for commenting! I was kinda disappointed by the lack of responses I got..
I do appreciate the feedback, however!
And yes Sphalerite is very cute. It's hard to tell but the ends of her hair are streaked with yellow. They're not anymore, but it was just a side-effect of her Defect.
Ironically, I was gonna draw a standard Sphalerite alongside the one you see here, just so that you can see the difference. But I decided against it. I've decided to wait until I draw all of the Gems together, to show how they look to their "perfect" counterparts.
