What a wonderful emotional depiction. I can feel their weariness (shading on his face), etc...
My only scruple is that I half expect the hobbit with the winged helm to have the matching winged shoes of Hermes But that's just me...

This is the type of helm that the guards of the Minas Tirith wore - just the smaller version (as it is in the text).

I have to say of all of your images this is one of my favorites, if not my absolute favorite. Is this india ink? What an awesome technique. I am writing a role-playing game and I love your style. Would you be interested in possibly doing some art for it? I can give you some scenarios and specs and let you go. I want to pay you. When I get this publishable, I can't guarantee the pay will be sooo sweet, but it would be a fun game and maybe make a difference in the gaming community. I can let you know what's up with it as it goes and when an opportunity arises, I'll keep you in the loop, if you are interested, of course. I am not making any promises about it, but I can hope. I won't ask for anything till I know it's a go and you can get paid for it.

Hi!
First of all - thank you very much for the kind words! It's black ink (I'm not sure about "indian" - my English fails me here - I use a very simple blach ink and a metal stylus)
Second - your gallery is amazing! Are those works done for the game you're planning?..

And the third... The idea sounds VERY interesting, but right now I've got an emergency job to finish (it's LOTR illustrations), and after that I'll have to do one more emergency job So - wether I like it or not - I just can't take any other jobs until I finish these... But I'm really very much appreciate your suggestion, and thank you once more!!

You are very welcome. I completely understand. I have been working on a project recently that always takes precedence over other things. I am not going to complain. Your LOTR work is fantastic and I am glad there is another amazing artist out there. Your work is so great. Do you use watercolour?

Yes and no about the game. The current project is for the game. A concept piece for a story in the history of the world about a hero, Haraldain, who takes some of his best warriors and embarks on an odyssian voyage of sorts in searcg of his wife, who turned into a swan and flown from the kingdom when she heard he may have been slain. He takes his magical starsword and builds a boat that he takes upon the sea to seek her. There are many adventures for him, but this is a moment when he faces Elivagar (Norse word for Sea), a god of sorts, who gives him some instruction about finding his wife.

There is a lot of backstory surrounding this event, but the game is a deviation from most others. It's my baby My main goal is to get kids reading the things that spawned works like LOTR and PS Beagle's work, among others. Many kids today don't know who Beowulf is. I feel like the rpg universe is so clogged with ads and explosions no one takes the time to see where it all came from. Especially today, things are shoved at kids so fast they hardly have time to think about where they are going or how where they are going may effect others. So this is heavily laden with archetypes found is numerous folktales and mythologies from many cutlures, namely the Norse and Celtic, but with much Russian, Finnish, Inuit, Mongolian, Turkish, Arabic, Breton elements and story archs within, as well.

Thank you once more! Yes, I use watercolour - I'm very fond of it, and I'm learning to use in properly... It's still a long road, though...

I'll send you a note about the rest!

This sceene allways stood out to me. When the two friends finaly got together after the battle it was just so sad. No one really seamed to notice the halflings but they were the ones doing some of the most important stuff in the books. I remember Aragorn said that Merry should have been carried into the sity like a king after what he had done.

I really like this I wish I could draw clothes like that..

DappleHack In reply to Segundus [2009-04-10 16:25:16 +0000 UTC]

Yes, there are many places in LOTR that are not popular among artists, but still they are very importaint and moving...

Thank you fir the compliment!

I just read LOTR again and their so many scenes I would love to see illustrated, but there are so littel of them. Maybe I should try to do some illutrating myself. Could be good practice.
You're very welcome!
