Description **Finished product here [link] **

Here is my work in progress, even though I said no original picture, I put a really small thumbnail there.

Also, experience taught me to watermark somethings, so I had to do it... sorry about that, for now.... the "Progress Report" will retain my watermark, and this page watermark, so... 2 Watermarks, the finished product, wont. For now!

I did the line art using: Adobe Illustrator, I then exported the image to Photoshop, where I'm coloring it.

Quick Tutorial

Step 1: Analyze what picture to do, then transfer it either to Illustrator or Photoshop, and just trace the line art, after, edit the line art to your liking and style.

Step 2: Transfer to Photoshop (if done on Illustrator).
Step 2a: Start coloring your line art, with just FLAT colors.

--Create a new layer below you lines
--You can either use the "SELECT" tool, and select inside your line art (using the Line Art layer), then go to "SELECT==>MODIFY==>EXPAND" select pixel number depending on your resolution.
--Select your New Layer, and fill it with the colors.
--Repeat with every other color
...or you can do it manually with the BRUSH tool. Set HARDNESS to 100% or just select a hard brush and color away.

(I always make a new layer for every part of the body I use;
and I always start, from lower color to higher color, meaning: SKIN->CLOTHES->EYES and MOUTH->HAIR)

So right now I have 7 Layers:
==LINES==
==HAIR==
==EYE&MOUTH==
==CLOTHES==
==SKIN==
==BACKGROUND== (usually invisible until the end)
==ORIGINAL PICTURE==

Step 3: Shadows
This is the most tedious step, it's the one that test your patience. It can take you hours.

I usually start doing the Skin shadows first, after that I either choose to continue with the eyes and mouth or clothes and accessories. I always leave the hair for the end, although sometimes I switch depending on difficulty.

So GROUP all the flat colors layers together. Then make a new layer on top of the group. SELECT the skin color, and in the new layer just start shadowing your work.

You can eye ball the colors, an choose them yourself, or... do this little trick, select the skin color and BURN in "midtone" mode the skin and select it, this will be your light shadow. Now color away on your new layer.

Make a new layer on top of that, same process as before, and it will be your Medium shadow.

Make a new layer on top of that, but this time BURN on "highlight" mode. This will be your Dark shadows.

**I do each shadow on different layer to prevent mistakes and correct details** after that just merge all three layers on to one.

Do the same with every color. When in clothes I usually only do two type of shadows the medium and hard, or just do the hard shadows. On skin I do the three, although sometimes I do two of them too.

Step 4:Highlights
This is basically the same as step 3, only thing is I use DODGE instead of BURN, and only once in "highlight" mode. I do very little highlighting, so I looks natural.

Step 5: Black and Whites
Basically after all is done, I select normal round BRUSH with hardness to 0, create a new layer on top of every other layer (including Lineart), set the opacity of the brush to 25% and just fill wherever I feel white should go, since it's on 25% I may double or triple click the white, depending on hardness I need.

I use this for eye shines, face cheek chines, and even some little shine on chest, and clothes.

I do the same with the black only I put it on 75% and I never hit anything directly only with the border of the brush, and accentuate the shadows a little bit, where they are needed.

Step 6: Background
Here you let your creativity fly, I most of the time I do is try to recreate or approximate the original background in color and consistency.

So, here it is my complete process on how I make my work. It's actually more detailed and with more tricks here and there, but those can only be explained in person.

Now check the next deviation [link] for the complete product. This is I wanted to be my first project of 2008 and is actually too a Birthday present for her (the model).

Thanks, updating next step soon! It's the most tedious one, specially Skin Shadowing!

Thanks currently doing step three "Shading", it's actually the hardest step, and time consuming. Specially on pictures like this one!
