Description Despite his dark magic betraying him in the King's tournament, Wyatt has continued to pursue the art in hopes that he may change it into something more... elegant. Yes, the green sludge of his was ugly and gross, that simply had to go.Ā

Now I introduce to you, stage 2 of his dark magic. Omitting a red aura from his book, music notes of the sort will appear from it as he casts his spells. I'm not exactly sure what kind of powers this new level of his dark magic has but I will figure that out soon.

The green sludge magic that he had before was his initial inner feelings. Dark Magic is usually magic based around one's hatred or sorrow, which in this case was Wyatt's isolation as a child. So because he had these ugly feelings, his magic appeared ugly and gross as well. However now things have changed and the boy is more eager to prove to people that Dark Magic can be an elegant art, and his magic is beginning to reflect that, something he is able to control better and develop better as a person.

Oh wow, this is indeed much more elegant than sludge. The notes are really beautiful with that shade of red~ o w o
And hmmm... I wonder how he will put this new level of power to use? Perhaps he'll figure it out when he and Annabelle get together for that training session. ^w^

I really like his pose here, and the glowing lights are super pretty as well! To me, dark magic, in lots of fantasy settings, equates to knowledge. Mainly because it's opposed to divine or light magic, and, in a real-world context, knowledge is often opposed to faith and the divine. Knowledge isn't intrinsically good or bad, but it's just power to do something. And knowledge is definitely something that can be elegant like a beautifully simple equation. I really like the direction you're going with it

Ah thank you! I actually spent a lot more time on this picture compared to my others so that means a lot that people are noticing ;w;

I wanted to make a more dynamic pose and usually the best kind of ones are ones that are in motion. Having light come from below is also super fun to do and it makes for some cool lighting~

And I must say, either you've checked out Wyatt's history before or you're pretty much on point with your theory. The boy craves for knowledge, and the whole reason he really even wanted to set out to Yarlets was because he wished to find answers to questions, just in general. He tapped into the Dark arts by mistake at first, but now it's something he wishes to fully dive into and tackle head on.

The way you worded that all and how accurate it is makes this all pretty inspiring for me to do to be honest.Ā

I'm glad that I could help, heh. I debated making Laurentia a dark mage, but I didn't know how he'd read being blind and all hehe. I guess I could have worked around it because it is a universe where magic exists and there are creative workarounds, but I felt the use of magic kinda defeated the point of Laurentia's blindness and the conflicts it brings him. I'm always really fascinated by dark magic in fantasy, though. I think it's because it's a bit like me. Knowledge, science, and mathematics are amoral things, not immoral. They are often a Pandora's box to many religious groups, though, as seen in the Abrahamic creation story regarding a tree of knowledge. People try to label knowledge is bad or evil because people can use it to harmful ends or it can invalidate the need for faith, but I embrace it. I get that sense from him, too, that it's almost a metaphor for the pursuit of knowledge and how it can be scary viewed from the outside. People would be quick to ostracize or try to "fix" those who had legitimate questions or who wondered. I guess I know because it happened to me. Well, oops, I guess it got a bit long-winded and personal. But this stuff really compels me and fascinates me.

Things like knowledge and science basically consist of facts, truths to be more specific. Truth is something scary to confront because at the end of the day that's all it really is, nothing more, nothing less. It certainly does mess up with religion and faith because there are many people who simply like to believe in what they want in order to avoid the truth entirely. Ignorance is bliss as they say.

Truth is indeed scary because you have no idea what it could possibly be, and once you do figure it out you have to accept it. Such a question to be answered would be "Is there an afterlife?" We don't have an answer for such a thing since anybody that knows the answer is dead. Many people believe that there are such places like heaven and hell, reincarnation, ect. But makes you wonder, if one were able to learn the 100% truth as to what would happen after you die, or how much longer you have to live in the rest of your life, would you REALLY want to know? Would you embrace the truth?

Wyatt however, doesn't seem to really mind too much, when a question arises, he's generally stubborn about it until he learns the truth. He holds no such fear for things. And sometimes he does get viewed as a monster for it, his previous magic was an ugly green sludge that impaled and almost killed him in the tournament when he required too much out of it. People suggested that he change classes and to fix his ways, to pursue something else, but that's not who he is so he declined such an offer and continued doing what he loves to do, learn the truth.

If you haven't already, you should consider watching or playing Persona 4: The Animation. The whole series basically revolves around embracing the truth for what it is.
