Description How this could've taken so long is beyond me, but it's finally done (as far as 3d work can ever be done; can it?)! After two weeks of struggling with Zbrush, here's the the 'completed' swan knight in some snowy, photobashed environment. Lore time!

------------------------------------------------------

The Knights of the Nettle Swan are the royal guards of the heir to the Crown Elisa, enforcing the will of the Lady across the frozen fiefdom of Reitzelhagen. The Knights were originally founded to uphold peace in a land brimming with unregulated magecraft, but over the years, their anti-magick slant has gained them a fearsome (and ironic) reputation of being fanatical witch hunters.

Standard knight gear includes armor with wing-like fins (called "nettle feathers") that help diffuse malevolent magical energies away from the wearer. All knights are armed with a Bloodcutter, weapons of choice that, upon wound contact, are designed to sever a mage's connection with his main source of power - usually blood.

Knights that are known witches themselves are constantly under close supervision by agents of the Crown, and are not allowed to practice magecraft outside of combat.

since you commented my use of sketchup, is zbrush easier to use / better to achieve complex goals?
(i only know sculptris, but rapidly failed at the limitation of drawing straight lines and planes)

hmmm, zbrush is an organic sculptor, as opposed to more mathematically-precise sculptors like autocad, rhino and maya.

Like sculptris, using zbrush feels like you're a sculptor working with clay. You dont type commands, tho there certainly are functions that help you retopo your mesh, combine meshes, and many more functions. And like a real sculptor, you can paint over your model when you're done; with colors and even with textures..!

Youare unfortunately right in that zbrush and sculptris aren't so good with straight lines and planes (since they're more like clay shaping), and if you prefer making mechs and vehicles, i'll say stick with sketchup, or rhino or maya..!

allright, thanks for the answer.
i allways thought, you had good line/plane tools in zbrush, because i have seen this guy evolve, and im fairly sure he uses zbrush:

admittedly hes seriously great at that stuph....
but there are straight lines, his mechas look like (well designed) machines

the idea to paint over the models is super intriguing, though....

Looks amazing! Loving the soft contours

From a purely functional standpoint though... where do they sheathe their Bloodcutters when not in use?

Thank you! i wrestled with the colors for quite a while; it's the first time i've actually done anything like this on zbrush! And the sheathe thing is a great question that i've never considered until now, so i'll be theorycrafting this:

The blade is composed of a transdimensional mineral called Arcanophilite. In its dormant state, it partially exists in another realm and is only semi-tangible; however, if it absorbs enough energy, it becomes tangible in whichever realm it absorbs energy from. If a Swan Knight engages a mage, the Knight will run an activating charge through the Arcanophilite, which will cause the Arcanophilite blade to immediately react to and feed on the magickal energies in the user's surroundings to gain tangibility. The stronger the enemy mage or magicks in the surroundings, the more solid and stronger the blade will become. Arcanophilite, as its name suggests, devours magickal energy at an alarming rate, which causes its molecules to superheat and vibrate at unnaturally high frequencies fast enough to rend flesh upon contact. It bites readily into any source of magick, including enchanted items and weapons not designed to repel it.

When the activating charge is turned off, or when there is no substantial magick in the user's environment, the Arcanophilite shard will lose tangibility, diffusing back into its realm. The Knight can magnetically clip the now blade-less handle to his forearm, or to his thigh plate.

just sth i made up on the spot, haha. Information subjected to change..!
