Description
I did the planets in Vue 8 using a custom 12200X6100 texture I made with Modis photos. This was my first real attempt making a planet using Vue. Let me know how you think it turned out!The download contains two sizes, 1920x1200, and 1920X1080.
Download the file and check it out in full view to see all the details. A lot of detail was lost when I scaled down to 1440X900 for the preview.

They are two different types of software, used for different things. Used together you can make some really nice art.

Thanks! I was inspired to make this wallpaper after looking through your gallery and seeing the awesome planets you created in Vue.

This picture feels overwhelming - The very detailed texture and wonderful details on the planets make them so real, at the same time they look somehow flat and seem to be very close to each other. Even more is this effect increased by the colourful space in the background. Really interesting to look at!
I devwatch you for quite a while, and this is the most eyecatching wallpaper i've seen so far! Fabulous work! Thank you for sharing with us!

Thanks! I was really pleased with how this turned out. I think if I tweak the atmosphere on future planets similar to this I can give it a more round look and less flat. I'm glad you liked it!

I wish there is some sort of cloud map generator.

Pretty good my friend. I really like the planet in the back, left. It looks very real. What I've found out really helps to make a 3d model planet look real, is to take the render into photoshop and build and additional layer to the atmoshpere. Its easier to make look softer like a real atmoshere would.

Thanks! Your comment is really helpful. If you don't mind can you send me a note describing what techniques you use to soften the atmosphere, and what improvements/enhancements I can do?

If I concentrate really hard, I feel like I could actually touch the main planet. And I adore the background nebulae, especially the one comet in the corner.

Thanks! When I look at the detail I feel that way too, like I can actually touch it.
