“That mask looks like Vah Rudania.” Pyle, the inn keeper at the Rollin’ Inn, said cheerfully.
“Thanks.” Replied Link, from where he was perched on the windowsill.
“Was it difficult to get?” Pyle went on conversationally.
Link shook his head and then, upon seeing Pyle’s slightly confused look, he realised that he had to elaborate, and recounted Pyle with the story of the OTHER reason why the Lizard Lakes may have gotten their names.
Pyle looked shocked, by the end of it. “I’m surprised that you two were able to defeat so many Lizalfos in one go!” He remarked. “Although, I suppose that would explain the decorative horns . . . ”
“I am the Lizalfos Queen!” Declared a voice from Link’s left, where Emma was currently blissfully relaxing in the hot springs and perfectly happy to let Pyle think that the horns on her head were just decorations. “Ah, I remember when this exact spot right here used to be lava … but THIS is JUST RIGHT . . . ”
“Eh, they’re never hot enough.” Tray spoke up, from out the front of the inn. “You try sitting in them when you’re in your Goron form,” he added, referring to one of Emma’s magical transformations. “THEN you’ll be wishing that the lava was back here!”
“NO thank you . . . ” Emma replied calmly. “Falling into Death Mountain during the heat of the battle against Fireblight Ganon was MORE than enough.” She went on, in a much quieter voice. “Without Daruk’s Protection I would have been TOASTED . . . ”
“Thank you, Daruk . . . ” Link murmured, staring up at the statue of one of his oldest friends, which now looked out over all of Goron City. Even when still trapped by Fireblight Ganon, Daruk’s spirit had managed to break free enough to save Emma from certain death. It made Link think about how, when Yunobo had been controlled by that mask just recently, Emma had broken it to free him from the mask’s control.
She had fairly yelled: “I MUST PROTECT … EVERYBODY!!”
And then, during the battle against Marbled Gohma, Link had been close to being caught up in an explosion caused by Gloom Rocks - Emma and Yunobo had both come from opposite directions, with Emma activating Daruk’s Protection and Yunobo using his own version of this ability.
“Let me help you to protect everybody, Emma!” Yunobo had told her.
Whether or not he had recalled what she had said to him upon breaking his mind-control mask, nobody knew.
But, it was a comforting thought, as Link watched Emma relax on a warm rock next to a Fireproof Lizard . . .
