Description Okay, the cat's out of the bag... This is called SYNESTHESIA. If what I explain now makes little sense, look it up on Wikepedia or something. I promise you will find it.

Synesthesia is a brain function/disfunction where your senses get all mixed up. For instance, you hear a sound and it invokes a smell. You taste some food and it invokes color.

I have a pretty vivid case of synesthesia, and these are some of the colors and shapes of all sorts of sounds and tastes and smells and feelings. Don't ask me to specify each one of them, I wont.

If you want to ask me more about synesthesia, send me a note or email. I can tell you what color your name is and whatnot.

If you like it, let me know. Its sort of weird putting it online...

Your art looks so cool! Every abstraction has an inspiration, and synesthesia is great for that. I wish I had that kind of ability. I am currently doing an experimental work shop with my friends on synesthesia and seeing if various sensations can inspire art in people who do not have true synesthesia. If you have any insight or opinions on how to inspire art in such a way, I'd love to hear from you.

Every case is special and unique.

Beautfiful! Just a quick question, do the colors ever get in the way with your line of vision. Like, lets say your playing rock music while writing a paper, can you still see what you're writing? It must be really wonderful to have splashes of color everywhere! Great artwork!

WOW/WOAH... some of those are really bizarre if you don't have Synethesia... which I don't... but they still look pretty cool!

I have a question... when you hear a noise or a voice (or your own voice) and see a color or shape, is it/can it be a three dimensional image or just a two dimensional image? Just curious...

definitely three dimensional.

That would make sense... Okay thanks!

Um... could you tell me what color, to you, the name Rachel and Evelyn are? I know that for everyone that each color and sense is different, but it is kind of cool to know...

i have to say that i cant see things as cool as dark dirastrix, but i say rachel is soft red velvet with orange peach and pink colored spots falling on it, and it has a whisper to it and maybe even a shadow behind it. it looks almost mysterious yet happy to me. then evelyn is a bright sunny name that is loud and its a happy name too. it has orange stripes in it and in a sentence, it would definantly POP out in the crowd. i hope you enjoy and half-way understand my discription!

Sophia is a deep nonreflective (but soft quality/velveteen) black with a small sing-song red flip at the end.

i just find this amazing. to be able to see what you see to a certain extent. i wish i had something like this, even if at times it sounds like it must get in the way. i'd still love to just see what it's like.

Yay fellow synesthetes! How do you get the colors down so fast?

Wow, this is really cool.
I just read a realistic fiction book about a girl that had had synesthesia all her life and didn't tell anyone about the colours until she was thirteen, and then she learned what it was called (that she wasn't just crazy) and it shows what she goes through.

thank you! A Mango Shaped Space is actually how I found out I wasn't just delusional. The only thing that bugs me about the drawing is that my synesthesia almost always takes place on a black background. Weird huh? I only really see the colors on white when I am sick.

Wow that is weird/cool.
A MAngo-shaped space is a good book.

It kinda drove me nuts. It was pretty little-kiddish. Other than supplying me with the scientific name for my "condition" it has remained on my bookshelf .

I get what you are saying; I didn't like the over-expression in some events. Along witha couple other things.

Gawd, I envy your case. I have it too, but I have Number Form Synesthesia. I don't get to see all the beautiful colors and stuff like that.
All I see is visualizations of sequences. And they're not colorful at all or interesting... but I can remember dates, times, and songs really easily.

I love my synesthesia. I hope you love it too. It's a blessing.

Hmm... What do you mean by visualizations of sequences?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

noc38mustang In reply to dark-darastrix [2008-09-27 19:08:53 +0000 UTC]

Dates, time, days of the week, songs, months on a calendar, seasons, history... anything that has a common loop of events or sequence of events.
I see them all as very vivid snaking ribbons with specific shape changes/landmarks corresponding to changes in the sequence, and each ribbon associated with a certain sequence.
They're gray, and float right in front of my eyes like a ghostly CGI.
It's cool.

I inherited it from my dad.

Whoa cool. I get all those in colors and the weeks/months in a sort of sequence, but not that intensely!!

And nobody in my family has it. We don't know where it came from. Even extended family.

And here we present....Karianne's typical doodle!! Horray! These doodles are just so like you! You should post all of these doodles up!!
I'm glad it has color..
But I think these doodles accidentally open a little window to your mind!

dark-darastrix In reply to TessaDior [2008-07-31 21:53:44 +0000 UTC]

Haha. Yeah I usually don't get much into the colors do I? And I'd better find some shutters for the window or I might end up all over the place and the janitor will get upset.
