Description
My first piece since getting CS4 PS on my new PC. (apart from a small practice sketch [link] )A coloured reference picture of my personal version of Nidhöggr from Norse Mythos.
As always character designs are subjects to change, but this is my current design for him.
I've added the colours I used, but mainly I just started with the skin base for the entire piece and added low opacity black on his darker parts and low opacity white on his skeletal parts. (Hightlighting/shading effects)
The highlight colour was used as a low oppacity wash on top of his brown skin and wings.
Smaller version to show wings, along with a simple sketch of the wing anatomy.
Previous art of Nidhöggr with short description of the character: (alongside Fafnir)
(c) Me
Drawing and character design belongs to me. Any forms of art theft is prohibited.
I'd love to hear what everyone thinks about it. Feedback or questions are always welcome, so feel free to leave a comment. ^^

As long as you mention the source by linking back here from the forum, then sure.
I just recently got back into Smite, so I'd appreciate seeing your thread after you post it too.

I like the way you drew the scales they look like a combination of wood, bone, and metal.

Thank you. That was exactly what I wanted to do. ^^
Bone-wood like armour-scales along the back and down the arms, and more dark metallic on the hind legs (and a bit on the upper-arms)
I'm glad you noticed.

Hey dude, this is pretty sweet, I really dig the wings/no wings aspect to the concept, and the skeletal design in the plating is always great.

Consider it a compliment of your skills.
I see from your work that you're a very capable artist. And frankly speaking more adept than myself.
While I enjoy feedback from everyone, and even get some amazingly detailed constructive help from friends that are not even artists themselves, I still can't help but appreciate praising words from artist that impress me themselves. ^^

Oh i agree. I always tell people, if you have eyes, you can criticize. Some artist cringe at this, and believe me, i don't always appreciate critique, especially when i'm not finished with an image, but only when it's not constructive. I personally perfer an open mind and opinion based critiques, over technical error criticism, mainly for the fact that an image is never intended to be perfect, and i'm still in a mid teir skill level imo. However, when it's ideas for what could have been executed better, composition issues, or things like the color scheme, look of something, design issues, etc, i'm always open ears...just sometime i dislike hearing something looks less realistic, or the lighting isn't perfect spot on...but this is happily accepted if some things are shown or a visual is given to help me learn.
I like your critiques so far though, given me some insight on things i'd like to try, and which is why i'm going to practice on style and not realism as much.,

Agreed. Constructive criticism definitely a superior form of critique.
And I'm glad to help. ^^ Realism can still be useful though, and as previously stated; It's all about the balance. ^^

Can I huggle him?
His plates are awesome. Love his colors. The tail tip is fantastic. Non-traditional wing design. I like it. ;3
And of course I adore his face. The horn designs you've come up with are perfect. Over all. I just really, really like him.
I FAVE! >8D

Well I'm sure he wouldn't want you to, but seeing as it's you, he doesn't really have a choice. ;D
I'm glad you like him, and thank you for faving!
My brother keeps calling him "the chocolate reptile" because of his colours and their resemblances to different kinds of chocolate.

That should be a doodle. Heh. Seimei hugging his neck. I might do that later. With your permission of course. ^^
He does have chocolately colors. Heh. And you're welcome for the Fave. I've been waiting to see a colored version of this fellow. 8)
