Description My first attempt at making a ship for the IJN (Imperial Japanese Navy)

She's a heavy Cruiser - some would say battlecruiser, with alotta horses under the hood
Still got some things to fix on her before she's done (like two more propellers) but I was bored - so why not upload anyways ?

Original Image is 3718x1220 so I uploaded the image as 1600x instead

Checkout SpringSharp to QA construction. I come up with 221,185 SHP to drive this hull form at 37.6 knots. That said, she's a good sea-boat with a decent metacentric heightΒ and aΒ reasonable roll for gunnery - well done. An interesting alternative to the B-64 type actually designed.

Suggestions:
1. Replace triple 8" with twin 14"/45
2. Replace the midships 6", casemate guns and 3"? AA with 6x2 5"/40 AA, replacing the magazines with the additional engineering spaces required. The stack works if all the boiler rooms are forward, but you would need a second if you adopt a unit machinery layout for improved survivability.
3. Replace the twin 6" with the leftover triple 6" from the Mogamis, make the forward one superfiring.
4. You need to add the fire control systems to make this work.
5. The after battery is too far aft - very little depth of hull there for magazines and torpedo protection systems.
6. No armor is specified, although there is considerable weight available. That said, the required protected length (magazines + engineering) is very large and there is a lot of deck area.
7. Torpedo protection is negligible due to the fine hull, possible for engineering but especially poor at the ends for the magazines.

Nice piece o' work. Are the 8" guns in twin or triple turrets? I assume that 155mm are in triples.

The entire design seems oversized and undergunned, but nevertheless it looks cool

The bigger guns are triplets and the slightly smaller are doubles.

I've never finished the ship xD
I checked the armaments of several different Imperial Japanese cruisers before I decided on the amount of guns.
Whilst this one may seem undergunned, we could always say that it's got better accuracy than other ships and thus it compensates

btw I'm very glad for all your comments

What's the guns' caliber then? A heavy cruiser's battery (9x203mm and 6x155mm) would we hopelessly wimpy for a ship of battleship's size. Or is it something bigger?

I never decided on the calibers ._.

That's something definitely worth doing. Maybe something bigger, like 6x356mm and 9x155mm? And, IMHO you should enlarge the smokestack - looks small for a 150000 hp powerplant.

Thanks for the constructive suggestions. the smokestack was inspired by the one on the Yamato.

This is O.K. and well done.
Why you mixed heavy cruiser armament (big turrets) and light cruiser armament (medium-sized turrets)? Do you want a dual-purpose cruiser?
Maybe the secondary armament are also Anti-aircraft? This make sense for me.

Thanks. My thought was that "Since the big guns can't shoot at really close things, I need something smaller to shoot at close things!" I reached that conclusion after looking up info and pictures on every cruiser (light, heavy, whatever) in use by the IJN.
The smaller guns can also be used as artillery, yes (at least from what I've learned)

Tried to make it all logical and sound So I'm glad you like it.
