Started off as a quick sketch of the ending redhead but I felt the need to colour it. Total it probably took about 4-5 hours.I don't know if I can draw hair that's not being windswept in some way... I love non-directional fantasy winds far far far too much. As much as the game's cop-out ending angered me... I have a huge love for the ending redhead and that scene never fails to give me the shivers, if it doesn't reduce me to a balling mess. You know then that it was a very very good game.
The title was the original title for chapter 85 of Reflections - the final challenge being figuring out which redhead it is.

But that certain redhead is Luke, there was an entire argument on why it would be Luke on YouTube, and I was like "Oh my god...'EVERYONE, IT'S LUKE, ASCH WOULD NEVER BE AS NICE AS HIM!'" So umm...yeah...

It could still be up for debate - I've heard very convincing arguments for both sides, as well as one for both of them in a single body. Seeing as it has never been confirmed by namco it could still go either way. Also we don't really see much of the final redhead so it's hard to say how "nice" he was, all he really said was that he liked it here and he was keeping a promise.Β
Although Asch isn't necessarily mean? Remember that you're playing the game from Luke's perspective which is the single person Asch has a hard time dealing with and thus tends to let out his anger upon. He's very civil when dealing with others.Β
I guess I'm trying to say there is no set answer - everyone is free to believe what they will.Β

I like to think it's Luke since his voice sounds more like how Luke talked, that and the hairstyle is closer to Luke's

I think it's Luke as well, but that Asch was also revived elsewhere. I felt that his voice was quite evenly between the two intonations myself though.

Except Asch is also naturally left-handed, he was forced to learn to use his right hand as a child for manner reasons.

Actually I believe that Asch was really right-handed, because if you examine all replicas found in the game they are the mirror image of their originals, and in a mirror a right-handed person appear as a left-handed person... And also, Asch's hair is paler at the roots while getting darker at the tips, while Luke is the complete opposite with darker hair at the roots and paler hair at the tips...
I imported the fan guidebook made about two years agoΒ for Tales of the Abyss from Japan, and it confirmed it all.

perhaps both? After all, even though Asch died, his body was left behind, but while Luke's body began to dissolve, he may have take Asch's body instead??

It's possible, but I don't really like that theory. I mean, the game spent almost its entire duration proving that a replica was not its original and that both had their own unique existence that was worthwhile. To have them become a single person in the end just contradicts all of that. But that's just me.

but at the same time luke and asch were the only two perfect copies, their bodies were exactly the same, as was their fonon frequency (minus hair highlights and voices). The only things that really set them apart were their personallities, and if you did the cheagle side quest where jade and mieu speak to the yellow cheagle at sheriden (spoilers) it says that it is actually the original in the replica's body, so who's to say that the reverse didn't happen for the fabres?

XD It was actually a heading in an art book I read once. Under Wind-swept hair there was: directional wind, strong directional wind, fantasy wind and non-directional wind. I'd say my favourite is combining the last two *nods*

What about copyright infringement?

Fanart is a bit of a grey area in terms of copyright. If you drew the picture yourself, you technically own the copyright on the image, but with fanart the content/characters are copyrighted to someone else. In barest terms, yes fanart and fanfiction are copyright infringements, but the intent behind them isn't malicious and it's fans way of celebrating a series that they like. By drawing art for the series and then sharing it, they're in a sense advertising and promoting the series to their friends/colleagues. For the most part people do it for fun and aren't raking in tons of money for it so the companies that actually own the copyright let it slide. Besides... it would be a really dumb move for a company to start sueing their followers/fans just because they loved a series so much they wanted to draw one of the characters from it.
Its a different matter completely if the picture you're uploading isn't yours, however.

i didnt really care much for the ending the first time, but i liked it way more the second time and beyond 8V in an interview with the writers, they said it was meant to be an interpretive ending but i think it fits xD and actually kinda is one of my favorite Tales endings... maybe... xD

I agree. The first time I watched it I was so mad at it, but the more and more I thought on it, the more I liked the idea. Funny, it came up not long ago when I was talking with someone else about Abyss and they said they wished there would be a sequel - and the thought of getting a concrete answer on the ending actually angered me. I would not want that at all at this point (or a sequel for that matter. Now a re-telling from the God-General's perspective, that would be fun. Not gonna lie, I'd love to play as Sync after 7 playthroughs as Asch)
I've only played Abyss and Symphonia, but between the two Abyss' was the better one for me. Much more powerful.

skgdlkjhdf yeaaaaah i dont like it when people say they want an Abyss sequel xD of all the games... it really shouldnt have one 8V and now its coming up a lot again because people think the concept art of the new Tales reminds them of Baticul <_> it doesnt remind me of Baticul, though 8V i kinda dont get the fascination for sequels in general, though xD if a story is good enough, then it will hold its own and wont need a sequel. a re-telling of Abyss through the God Generals would be neat xD but theyre separated all the time throughout the story so most of the time they wouldnt really be all six in one party o: maybe itd be good as an addition to some spin-off game xD like in RM3 Van was playable xD

I agree completely. The only time I've ever enjoyed a sequel is when the game was meant to be in multiple parts from the beginning and the plot/story was written accordingly. Tying everything up then ripping it all open again to try and create a new conflict never works out well and more often than not ruins the characters. I want to play RM 2 or 3. That'll probly be my reward to myself if I ever get off my but and learn to speak semi-passable japanese.

yeah xD that was what i liked about Tales of Destiny 2... it really did seem like it was planned from the beginning since a part of Destiny 2's story was to explain things in the first game a bit better and go into more detail... in an awesome way 8V the best advice i can give on playing Japanese games is learn about katakanas. a lot of the really basic words in a Tales game that you need to know to navigate through menus and for using items and spells use katakanas. theyre the easiest to figure out since a lot of them are English words. like apple gel is "apperu gumi" and tidal wave is "tideru wevu" 8V load is "rodo" and save is "sevu". takes some imagination but its the easiest part of playing an import xD
aaaaaand the new Tales is Tales of Xillia 2, which idk if thats good or not since i havent played the first Xillia

I learned my katakana once and have now completely forgotten it XD I can still recognize "a" but thats it. XD Being familiar with Tales terminology will also be helpful *nods* I want to go to Japan in the next couple years so at some point I'm going to have to sit down and seriously try to learn as much as I can. Maybe this fall once convention season is behind me XD

I haven't finished the new 3DS version, in fact I'm moving really slowly and am only in the cheagle woods. I've played the PS2 version many a time though so I'm not in a rush. My need to draw this picture came from somewhere else entirely lol~

I was debating getting a 3DS for awhile since there were a few games announced for it I wanted... then this one was announced and sealed the deal. Other than being in 3D there weren't any other additions or changes to the game so it's not like you're missing out on anything. It's just nice and portable now!

Yeah - its expensive, especially when you're in school or planning to go to school. I recently finished college and am working so I have a little bit of extra money to spare for those kinds of things. So don't give up! It's rough going through college money-wise but its totally worth it in the long run! And who knows, maybe when christmas rolls around Santa might bring you one~
I was kind of sad to see that they hadn't added any more features too like more sidequests and costumes for Asch
