Description An old dwarf tells the legend of Athe Pagedwave the best.

"Our Fortress, the last bastion of the dwarves, was built on a volcano. Aye, that's right, the last. See, our once great kingdom had been wiped out by those nasty elves. And there we were, under siege by the largest host o' elves you had ever laid eyes upon! They rode all sorts of exotic warbeasts. Giant elephants, frogs, giant mosquitos, and so on. Despite havin' such a great host, their army was all but useless. See, our great fort was completely sealed, except for a single entrance that led through our trap riddled corridors.

The elves knew better, and so, they stood outside in the rain, waiting.

That's when HE arrived, Rabab Shintundra, the great worm. He descended from the storm clouds like a bird o' prey and immediately set upon the great host o' elves! I thought it was quite funny watchin' all those long eared buggers tryin' to run away from this beast on their giant frogs. Oh! Aye! The beast was a mean one, it belched fire upon the elves, and though most o' them could avoid the flames, it wasn't long before all the lands around our volcano fortress were up in flames! It was like gazin' down into a scene from hell. Elves, fire, an' a bloody monster, dancin' about in the rain.

Suddenly, SHE came! Athe Pagedwave, on her giant mosquito! Oh! You shoulda seen it, lad! A great battle in the sky between the giant worm and a mosquito ridin' bow-elf! Under her, most o' the lands were now burning and most o' the elves had fled from their positions, leavin' their dead behind. But not her. She fought like a dwarf, with not a care in the world! Aye! She was somethin' magnificent to behold, an' I woulda thought her to be a dwarf if'n I didn't see the pointy ears for myself! She blocked several bursts o' flame from that great beast, and from her mosquito, began loosin' arrows from a beard's length away! After two arrows to the wings, she shot the beast in the head and pulled the brain out o' it! Aye! Just like pullin' a purrin' maggot out o' it's hole!

At least... That's what I was told... I had my hands full settin' up the ballista to shoot them both out o' the sky! Har har har!"

Do you do commissions, or license your work? I'd love to use this in a book I'm currently seeking art for.

A more FUN solution:

>find Adamantium vein

>carve a hallway from the vein to the surface

>select one sacrificial Miner Dwarf.

>wall off hallway

>set Miner Dwarf to mine open the Adamantium vein.

>Watch elves die from demon swarm.

A true dwarf, at his finest hour.

I think the best part of the picture is Athe's expression. Maybe it's just me, but she looks annoyed at the poor elf getting barbecued down there. It's like "Dammit, stop embarrassing me in front of the dwarves, geez. At least try to burn with a little *dignity*."

This looks like a job for... Critique Sandwich!
Readygo

This picture has a great flow to it. There's a lot going on, but you've managed to put it all together without cluttering the whole scene. I love when an artist has a strong attention to detail, and you have most certainly shown yourself to have it.

Now for some critique. The smoke in the background, while I understand its purpose, could have been done without. It looks quite a bit messy and rushed, and it hinders the otherwise very clean look of the piece.

The best part, I think, is the faces. You have an absolute gift for drawing interesting, eye-catching faces and expressions, and the elves in this piece shows this talent at its best.

Thanks!

And yeah, the smoke was a last minute addition, I didn't have it in the original sketch. I put the most time into the elves, and I guess it shows!

Aye, she might make it into a footnote in dwarf history, but she'll never make it among the ranks of the few elves that could proudly be called dwarves.

Same goes for the great worm. No dwarf is going to remember a beast that was taken down by a puny elf!

I love Dwarf Fortress because of these kind of stories.

Once again, you have illustrated it with great humour.

Yeah! I can't take credit for this story though (well, I suppose I did embellish it a bit), but mainly the beast and the mosquito riding elf and the whole situation came from another player's story. I just gave it a tribute with art!

Ah, it wasn't much of a story, actually. Heh! It was a short little blurb about what happened in the one guy's fortress. I think my little story is twice as long as the original
