Description For the midterm in my drawing class last term I had to combine elements from my daily sketches in a one-point perspective setting. Only so much I could do to make this interesting...

Might have been a little better if I'd actually started it when she gave the assignment instead of working the night before it was due. Ah well...

Something really jars about this picture, like the elements don't all belong together. It's not the indoor trees, they work quite nicely with the paving and the olde-worlde chandelier. It's the ceiling. It's a ceiling out of a modern office block or even a warehouse: it's too clean and square and straight, there's not enough unevenness and texture to the beams. Makes the whole thing feel like a film set: you have this fantasy world set in a big white mundane modern building. I do in fact like it, surrealism is meant to tip you on your head and make you think "wtf is going on here?". Which this does.
