Description
New San Salvador, El Salvador.I think there's nothing more attactive to photographers as a field of something, and this was a field of paper lanterns. I opted for a slightly tilted shot on purpose for a specific aesthetic look. With this photo I wanted to achieve 2 things, 2 different ways to focus. I wanted the light to focus on the paper lanterns, and that's why I went with a very underexposed look to bring out the fine detail that otherwise would've been lost in highlights. And I wanted the sharpness to be on the person lighting the candles. I think by making light and focus work together like this made me really bring out this photo.

In New Mexico we call them luminarias or farolitos. I'm not sure where they came from but my mom and I always put them up around christmas time. Hopefully you can look them up from there. They probably have a different name and culture surrounding them there but I thought you'd like to know.
