He found her right where he expected - at the foot of the rock. 'Their' rock. Hasi faltered for a moment as his eyes caught the form he'd become intimately familiar with, but it wasn't her beauty or her youth that snared him. It was the smile on her face as she caught sight of him and the light that shone in her eyes. His heart pounded as he ached to return her smile, her light. What would one more time hurt? Surely he could put this off for a few more days... Or years...

Hasi shook his head quickly. No, he couldn't keep doing this. The temptation to give in, to take his happiness and leave, had become too strong. He had to stay with Samson.

When the chocolate lioness trotted up to nuzzle at his mane Hasi stepped away. She blinked in confusion, but the smile remained on her face. "What is it, Hasi?"

The words felt stuck in his throat. "Leti, I'm not here to play or... Or anything else. I came..." When he swallowed he found his throat closing on air. "I came to say goodbye." There was a pause for a moment as Leti stared at him. At first she seemed to think him jesting, but as he refused to meet her eye the questioning smile eased into quiet dismay.

"You're serious." Her tone was flat with disbelief. The male dared to look up and meet her gaze when he nodded. "You... You want me to leave." Another nod. Only then did Leti's expression change, not to the anger that Hasi had expected, but to something that hurt more. He watched her expression turn to badly masked fear - fear of losing him.

"Tell me this isn't about your brother. Tell me, Hasi - tell me you want me to leave because you don't love me. Tell me that's what you really want. Look me in the eye, Hasi, look me in the eye and say those words and I'll leave."

Hasi could feel his heart beating clear through his being, as though trying to pound its way out of his chest and to the lioness he wanted so badly to give himself to. "I..." He tried to meet her gaze and nearly broke. A deep breath and another try - "I don't love you, Chokoleti. I want you to leave, and never return."
