Twilight was never quite the same after the wedding. Her encounter with the changelings and their queen made her... curious. She delved into the darker tomes of the Canterlot Library, looking to find anything to improve her magic ability. She and her friends had been defeated by the changelings, and Twilight resolved never to fail them again. She learned that magic isn't always fueled by harmony, that greater power awaited should she reach out and take it. Starswirl had called it sorcery, depicting it as unclean and corrupt in his research. Twilight saw it as an opportunity. With her findings, she found how to turn any powerful emotion into fuel for her magic. Nightmare Moon had used her jealousy to become more powerful than Celestia. Discord used his pride, and Chrysalis used the love of another. Twilight used her ambition. She became powerful. Powerful enough not to fail again. But in doing so, she had distanced herself. Her ambitions grew with her magical prowess, eventually causing her to snap. Keeping herself from failing wasn't enough. She resolved to purge everything that would threaten her friends. Things like the changelings, or the more malevolent dragons. It wasn't long before she was out of control completely. Driven to purge threats, she started attacking lesser threats. Griffons became completely nonexistent, and the Everfree Forest was wiped from the map. She even turned against other ponies. Trixie and the FlimFlam twins never stood a chance. Celestia tried to step in, to stop her student from her madness, but the student had surpassed the master. Even the alicorn couldn't stop Twilight from her goals. The throne was empty, but Twilight soon fixed that. She took it upon herself to rule, and turned the land into her empire. Those she deemed 'safe' only held their position until she saw them as a threat. Nopony was safe from her paranoia.

Grenadder and I on the mlpdrawingschool talked about doing a piece with bright, colorful lighting. I've had something like this drawing in my mind for several months now. I actually really like how this one came out. There are some minor perspective issues and such, but I think it's pretty good overall.
