Description Apparently...
Derpy thought that Goomba was a living muffin,
so she took it in to raise as her pet,
She even named it Muffin

And they kinda do look like muffins, if only a little XD

Goombas are from the Super Mario series btw
and personally, I've always thought Goombas were derps anyway, so it fits Derpy perfectly (in my opinion, lol)

I think they might be a parody of mushrooms. I saw a documentary called Know Your Mushroom, and they say mushroom varieties are much more well known in other countries and used in dishes, where in the US people just eat different types of button mushrooms.
