Hey guuuurrrlll, here's the critique you asked for.
Firstly, please know that what I say here is really just my opinion, my opinion is formed by my experience in this specific genre.
Right of the back, first thing I see is you depth of perception is off. We create a field of depth perception in our artworks to give the more focus to the main point of the image. So you need to think realistically about this. If you are going to have the focus on your model and the door, you need to add something in the foreground (like a branch or a twig with a leaf on in this case) and blur it. I can see that on the right hand side you tried to do that a bit with the trees at the very back, but I don't think they are blurred out enough. Also I would've slightly blurred the 'world' inside the door a bit.
The point of a manipulation is manipulating a bunch of photos into a scene, wether it be fantasy, dark or surreal. It should still look like you took a photo of this scene. The scene is just made up. And in photos the focus can only be on a small range. `kuschelirmel is busy making a tut on this, so I am trying to for now explain it the best way I can.
You do like how you handled the model, she looks well blended into the scene. I just want to point out the lighting on the model for you. Because the main light is coming from the back (the door) the middel part of the model should be dark, with I slim outer line of light, just like a outer line. And the arm that's reaching to the back should be more lit than the arm in front of her for instance.
Then there's something bugging me about the final way of how the entire piece comes together. I would suggest after you have flattened the image, add an adjustment layer - selective colour. Fiddle with the setting there, but changing the entire flattened image's colouring makes it all come together, it ties up all of those loose strings. And then after you done that, make a copy of the layer, add a high pass filter and set the blend mode to soft light.
I just want to also mention to you that this piece was hard to critique, cause even if it seems like I have a lot to say, I had to look long and hard to figure out what it exactly is about it that's off to me. But it's really not bad!! I think if the last mentioned changes were done, this would qualify as an intermediate manip!
Good job!! and I hope this helped, please don't stop creating!!!
Regards
Leana
