As for why they don't see the tentacles? I'm guessing that Laila is using some sort of illusion spell. That or Keiko's parents got their weirdness censor cranked up to 11. xD

Read it like a manga page, right to left. Also if you see a tall picture next to a collection of smaller panels, be sure to read the smaller panels to the point where they add up to the same length as the larger image before moving on. Hope that helps^^.

She can't see them because a temporal anomaly/ dimension alteration. All she sees is arms and legs, a perfectly normal girl. But then again, she notices them but figures its ok.
