Description
Top Left: Betta TankResidents:
2 male bettas separated by a divider
- Apoc: 3 year old "Red/Black Devil Crowntail"
Red(aka "Old Man"): almost 4 years old "Red Unique Halfmoon"... He's a mutant.
2 Cardinal Tetras (long story as to why I have 2 of each, was not on purpose)
Live Anubia Plant (I really need more plants *cries*)
Setup:
10 gallon
Heater set at 75-78*F
Internal Whisper Filter
The background is a bamboo place mat.
50% water change every other week
This is a proper betta tank.
Bottom left: Goldfish Tank EDIT: They have been moved to their permanent 30 gallon tank.
Notice how it is not overcrowded. Pretty much every goldfish tank I see on DA has WAY too many fish in it. Goldfish get really big and can live over 10 years when cared for properly. Make sure you remember that when you stock your tank.
Residents:
1 Pearlscale Goldfish (Mochi
1 Fantail Goldfish (Nori)
Setup:
10 gallon NOTE: They will need a larger (30 gal) tank when they are adults. As they are both still small, a 10 gallon is acceptable.
External Tetra Filter which provides aeration for 2 goldfish. If there were more than 2 then they would defintely need additional aeration.
The background is a bamboo place mat.
50% water change every other week
This is a proper goldfish tank.

With my betta tanks I have fake plants, since my Betta likes to sleep on them I don't think its an issue, cept one which tomorrow when I clean his tank its comin out...stupid plant ripped his freaking fin But he's got himself a ten gallon tank heater and filter.

Fake plants can be dangerous, but most of them are ok. Just keep an eye out for those sharp ones. Silk plants are the best though, since they couldn't tear your boy's fin if they tried!

Bettas are special that way, they just love to rest on plants. Their fins must weigh them down too much to sleep while swimming, like other fish do hehe so special~

You're one of the few out there that will actually do a proper goldfish setup and that makes me happy. I work at a pet store and run the fish section, and I absolutely hate it when people want more goldfish (or any other fish for that matter...) than they need for their tank (I especially despise bowls). For example, they'll have a 10g and want to stock 10 medium comets, or 20 small comets just because they're cheap. Irritates me.
Very nice setups though, I absolutely adore that beautifully colored Pearlscale, I've only ever seen them mostly orange and a little white. And I love the little Neons and Cardinals kicking around with the Betta XD! (That and your Anubias is nice and big too, I want to steal it XD)

Gha I know what you mean! So frustrating. I would never be able to work at a fish store. I wouldn't be able to sell any of the fish! Dx So sad, why can't people treat goldfish better?
I bought Mochi at the Japanese fair in St. Louis from a Japanese Koi vender. I guess he really did have good breeding since the black marks aren't disappearing (in most commercial goldfish, black markings are temporary and fade with age-only well bred goldfish keep the black marks). He's just soooo adorable
haha you can't have it! Apoc loves it too much! Now I actually have a pic to show people that bettas can live with other fish. Neons and cardinals are great companions for bettas
Thanks!

It's hard trust me! I've gotten angry a number of times, although thankfully I can keep the anger in touch but, you start to learn how to deal with obnoxious, rude, and incredibly stupid people in a way where your job isn't compromised LOL. One thing I really like about the job, is the more I learn, the more I can get people to understand the hobby properly, and slowly convert as many as possible into responsible fish keepers ^-^
Awwww you are lucky, there is nothing like that around here (well I guess there is one Koi breeder, but I've heard the prices are incredibly high). Oh ok! That makes sense with the black marks, that's pretty neat!
Damn XD! I tried LOL. My Anubias is still pretty small, but slowly growing!
And see that's pretty cool, so many people think that Bettas are extremely vicious fish and should only be on their own. But in a proper setup, small fish are fine! The worst thing they can do it chase them. Once, however, I did have a school of 4 Rummynose Tetras with a Red Veiltail I once had and he managed to catch and destroy one, but I think it was weak to begin with lol. But I've had Shrimp with them before, and Badis and they've done just fine!
You're welcome ! (Sorry for the late reply XD)

That's very true. You do get the chance to educate people *before* they buy the fish. Unfortunately, I usually only have the chance to help people after the fact.
They only have the fair once a year, in the fall, but I'm so glad they have it. I plan to get another little finned golf-ball next year There is only one fish vender, the rest of the venders just sell art n' stuff. The koi he sells are ALL over $100, which is probably the same as the koi breeder you know of. Nice koi are always over $100! Crazy D:
lol sorry xD Anubias grow really slowly, I've had this one for over a year and it really isn't that "full", but, like yours, it's growing slow and steady
Wow, you have/had badis? They are so beautiful! I was under the impression that they are aggressive though? Like mini-cichlids?

I do, but unfortunately not all listen. I often argue with people, because they have it set in their mind that they know everything and what they're doing is fine because you know 'It's only a fish' they say. Those people I want to punch in the face!
Oh wow, those would be nice Koi though! Yeah the place just out of town sells very expensive Koi, but they're really nice ones! They do also sell some cheaper ones, I guess they would call them the duds LOL. D'awwww I hope you find another Pearlscale to add to your fish family
I know, mine is taking aaaaaages but there has been a couple new shoots so it's going. I need to replace my bulb though, it's getting close to its year mark XD.
I needed to take down the tank so unfortunately I don't have them anymore (they went to a fellow co-worker and she loves them lol). But yes, they are one of my fav! They are indeed a little semi-aggressive but they never touched my shrimp or the Betta that was in there. However I originally had 4 and the remaining male I had killed the other male and I'm not sure what happened with the other female, I think she was weak and just died.
They aren't of the cichlid family but they act sort of like Rams XD

I have always kept bettas with other community fish, and never had any problems. I don't know where people get that bettas can not be kept with other fish. Of course you can't keep more than one betta together but thats a different story lol!

Unfortunately, the petstore paints them as non-community fish :/ And as cold water, small container fish :/ :/ :/ And people just take their word for it

I really like the more naturalistic tanks with plants and rocks and such I especially like your goldfish tank. It's beautiful ^^ Oh, and can I just say that Mochi is freaking adorable?!

Agreed, I really don't like the cutsey cartoon tanks with all the bright colors and such. They take away from the beauty of the fish themselves.
He so cute he just doesn't know what to do with himself all day! Ghaa, he's the first goldfish I've ever fallen in love with

I've always disliked goldfish... but for some reason I LOVE little round pearlscale goldfish like Mochi. I use to have one that was almost solid cream colored one that I named Kirby

Aren't they just adorable!? I usually don't like them much either, especially ones with crowns *yuck* but for some reason the little pearscales are just soooooo adorable. Maybe it's because they look like golf balls with fins?

YES! I think it is... little mini finned golf balls
Yeah... I can't stand the ones with crowns, or the crazy eyes... and comets are just so... bleh... I like odd fish like Polypterus, Datnoids, Pickerel, and BIG catfish... But then again... I'm crazy!
Bettas are always wonderful too though

Yep, it looks like they literally swallowed a golf ball! SO cute
Agreed, the strange brain tumor things and mutated eyes are just wrong >.>
haha, I hope you aren't keeping any pickerel! Those things are mean! lmao, but I do love Polypterus too. The ornate ones are so beautiful
Let's be honest, you have to be a bit crazy to love fish!
