Description This is my entry for the 3D Contest at the Maconvention 09, an austrian Anime Convention in Linz / Leonding. I won the first prize, even though it was not a real competition (with only two contestants - myself included).
The theme of the contest was "Japan - Past and Future". The scene I created should symbolize these two "worlds", which are both important aspects of modern japanese culture. It could have been depicted 50 years ago, but just as well it could take place 10 years in the future. Who knows?
And of course, I wanted to include my hobby Mahjong...it's a fun game!

For german speaking people: I have created a very small "Walkthrough" which should tell the visitors at the Convention a bit about the process of making the image. If you're interested, you can find it here:

(Hit "Download" to download a .pdf file containing the walkthrough.)

A few notes about the image:
It is certainly not my best and there are quite some errors due to the tight deadline - I won't bother removing them anymore, though. I learned quite a bit, still, so it was definitely not a waste of time...
Like working with big images in Lux (I ran out of memory frequently) or working with a lot of vertices in Blender (more than 4,000,000 ).

Modeled in Blender, rendered in Luxrender. Tone Mapping in qtfsgui, Post Pro in Photoshop. Textures from cgtextures.com and the commercial Wood Collection by Arroway (which is awesome, by the way). The plant models are based on models found on
[link] and [link] which are available freely.

So, I'd appreciate your comments and critiques, just curious if you point out the same things that I have noticed
And maybe you even like it, which would be great, too

As I allready said ... I like it

The pillows somehow look really hard and uncomfortable, but maybe that's your intention

The plants in the background are gorgeous, love them ^_^

Nah, not my intention but a necessity. One of the points I'd change if I had the time to.
But glad you still like it ^^

Of course I still like it, it's a great piece of 3D art

Little mistakes happen, especially if there wasn't enough time
