update 2*they removed it, but i do insist that i am right in counting 5 colours only:
ah well, looks like counting colours can be tedious and tenacious too =_=;...
--------------------------------------------------
update*
changed it to the bottom black tshirt instead of gray, as it stands out more clearly... finally managed to finish editing it amidst sneezing and dizziness, lol. am fine now by the way, though still got a little fever*
linearts without the tshirt down there is here:
---------------------------------------------
this is based on Greek mythology. i drew the god of the wild, shepherds and flocks, nature, of mountain wilds, hunting and rustic music, as well as the companion of the nymphs----Pan. the only thing i changed were his horns---i gave Pan living, growing tree as horns instead of the goat horns that he's commonly depicted with. added a little art nouveau like design for it to add that classic myth feel. and yes, i tattooed him somewhat. and yes, the flute is somewhat modified and living as well. my regret is that there is no white t-shirt template...i feel the drawing will look nicer on a white background!
if you like to wear this design, please do vote for it~thankies~
time taken:
round 8 hours i guess, inclusive of tearing up two other semi completed roughs before i settled for this one, lol
tools:
pencils and mechanical pencils, and PS CS3 to photoshop drawing onto tshirt template
...damn loaned network is killing me TvT...i ended up loading this at a cyber at this frigging hour. that does it, am getting a new network as soon as i can!

I have to admit, I can't actually tell...
It's very difficult to count shades of grey in pencil drawings. It's not digital, so that every little stripe MIGHT be a little different in shape. So the whole shading argument as own colour is kind of stupid to me. I mean, theoretically two shades of grey will look like a different shape, depending how you mix them up (means in shading, how many darker grey lines and how many lighter grey lines are in one space.) Sorry, if it doesn't make any sense. It's difficult to get my point through. I just want to say how difficult it is to judge such a point for traditional media.
Seems like it is actually disqualifying most traditional medias where you are easily able to count more shades. I guess I would count more than five shades of grey too... but just for the given reason. On the shirt with the yellowish overlay it looks less, but because it's smaller there makes it more difficult for me to tell.
I don't mean to offend you. The art is amazing and it would make a great shirt.
I haven't been to the contest entries and so can't say about other arts breaking their rules (either obvious or like here for nitpickers)... but please don't feel too offended. I am sure there will be more entries going out of the contest. They're just not able to do so for all of them at once. And even if some might stay on, they'll surely won't win.
It's really sad about your entry and I wouldn't know, how to fix it, else than doing the shading digitally. But it would lose so much then..

well, i asked once, and the person told me:' think of the o as the head, the r as the arms and body, and the z as your bending/kneeling down kness'--it's and expression to denote a pose of a person kneeling down

Awesome, I can't do that with pencil. I usually use ink in my drawings, and lately I started to colour them with Illustrator. Here are 3 designs if you want to see:
