Description 'cross my palm
and i will tell you thy's fortune'

art trade with hope u like it dear, and sorry it took me so long to do mine|

...after some thought, decided to let it try out for 's MY ORIGINAL CHARACTER Contest, as i really enjoyed drawing Ombre~^^, ah~it's so nice to draw an original character again~

Ombre the gypsy fortune teller, that looks like she can be found at a pirates' quay and at the courts of royalty^^, waterdrops to symbolise effects of her words to any traveler that asks for his fortune---sort of a ripple effect on the person's life, and the scars to symbolise that her line of work is dangerous, the mask to add mystery to her as it looks so high class...makes one wonder if she came across the mask or if it's hers...and the tattoo...er, well, i rather think i fail a little for a tattoo, it doesn't look anything like what i initially envision it but thank god it doesn't look too bad either, hahaXDD. she has gold tawny eyes like an owl, which sorts of unsettles some people, and the other half of her face is always covered by the mask she holds, and makes one wonder what is she hiding?as she isn't afraid to show the scars on the other parts of her body---used part of her hair to double as water ripple and patterns along with her shawl^^,

alpha watercolours, signo white pen, pilot gold and silver pen, masking liquid, penac 0.5 mechanical pencil
---and no, i didn't edit it one single bit digitally this round..there was no need?the scanner did a wonderful job!makes me think of getting thta brand of scanner...

wanna commission me?

I like the watter droplets in the backround with the splashes of white paint, and I also like how her hair flows in the water and forms ripples itself The bright contrasting colours give a nice Gypsy effect and it also makes her look mystical The little details in her mask and the jewellery look great too XD

I love your use of white - is that masking liquid?

darkn2ght In reply to kittyocean [2010-11-12 19:02:53 +0000 UTC]

most of it, some of it is white ink pen, esp the lines of the hair and areas near the face. too tiny to reach with masking liquid.

thanks wish i could have done better and do the type of water effects you see in a swimming pool...was too tired to think of trying it out then! though probably it won't suit this piece as i am doing a ripple effect, not a surface water effect, lolol

Oh my, your water color skill improved so much. And, I think you should try mixing more colors on the pallet, there are a ton of greens, blues, reds, yellows, browns and purples if we try making them from the original red, blue and yellow, and it's so much fun working with them too.

Ah, and I liked your fortuneteller You always did well when design characters

darkn2ght In reply to quybaba [2010-10-11 05:35:41 +0000 UTC]

thankies, for your compliment and tip^^, i suck at mixing colours actually, so am now regreting i didn't buy the 36 colours pallete;;;...as sometimes my colour mixing produces er...something weird XDDD?hahahaha. but this time it's quite ok i think

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

quybaba In reply to darkn2ght [2010-10-11 16:31:50 +0000 UTC]

When the mixing color don't look like what I want, I will put more suitable colors to it to change it. And I used a flatten pallet with a cover to protect the remaining colors from dust to using later, so it won't be waste. And I think we don't need such much slots in the pallet, I usually working with 2-5 colors at the same time, then mix the waste colors with new colors and continue

darkn2ght In reply to quybaba [2010-10-11 16:46:02 +0000 UTC]

haha, i did that too with my new pallete, as my new colours seem to be of better quality, and are able to be used even after one week oi after i left it on the pallete! though after using this brand of watercolours, myprevious experience with the other brands looks like a nightmare?lolol

i think i work better with monochrome colours or single colours though, as i seem to be a type that likes contrast. friend says i like to use layering to do my colours. she does layering too, but uses only the same colour to produce the effect. difference in preferences i think. i still need to work o my backgrounds...

What kind of water color do you use? In my country, the best ones is Pebeo and White Night (a Russian brands, but we used to call it Leningrat water colors, 99.99% Vietnamese on DA use it if they work with water color )

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

darkn2ght In reply to quybaba [2010-10-13 15:55:18 +0000 UTC]

wow, leningrat, i have seen it i think but i just bought mine---Alpha. it's from korea the ones we usually use for art classes is buncho. but it's so like poster colour i couldn't control it...at least, i dun feel a respond from the colours?it doesn't mix as alpha does, whcih is exactly what i envision in my mind^^,

cool, pebeo and white night. i dun see the former here. but maybe i am looking at the wrong palce, because i am sure they have it, along with winsor newton watercolours which europeans seems to like to use.

Oh, my, the winsor colors, all the water color guide book I got used them as the example for mixing colors, but I find it nowhere. So, I have to read them and guess what could be what. *__*

darkn2ght In reply to quybaba [2010-10-17 11:13:53 +0000 UTC]

lolol.maybe i should try that. how and where do you get info on colour mixing for winsor newton?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

quybaba In reply to darkn2ght [2010-10-17 11:59:40 +0000 UTC]

A guideline translated book, in general, we have 3 kind of water colors, one likes dye, when you paint with it, it links with the paper quickly and you can't take out the color later, one is clear, it works well and look clean and smooth when you working layer by layer, one is unclear, and you could take it out later with wet brush, when mixing the colors, we should know what kind of colors we used, and the mixing color behavior.

For example, if I used a strong and dark dyeing color for the area, I can let the wet brush cross it later (when the former color is dry) with no harm, but if the dark area was painted with unclear color, the wet brush would take out the color from the former layer. And we have dye+dye=dye, etc... but when we tried to mix 2 or more different kind of colors, the result color need some test, or we couldn't know its behavior.
