it doesnt have any grand principle as such, but it is the most thought out image I've done for years. I'm not sure it achives its goal but its supposed to make you consider the owner of the book and pen.
Its called "The Principle of Optics" for a few reasons.
Its the actual name of the book I used in the setup when I painted it, as a book title it still suited the main focus of the picture, but because I left the book blank its upto you to decide what its about. It also give a reference to all the optical paraphernalia laid about the scene which I quite liked. so I guess if it does have a principle or a goal its about how the way we see things influences our study of the world and about the things we use as tools that distort what we see, including drinking half a bottle of wine.
now I think about it, thats a pretty grand principle. It didn't feel as grand when I was painting it.

it is complete. I had to put another (unfinished) piece to one side while I worked on this one.

It's great, it's beautiful. The tones and shadows in the room make me feel like there's a log burning in the fireplace, casting warmth across the room....
So now with this wonderful piece behind you, how are you doing with the third fairy????

Wow, I love this. The colours are so rich - the shades of brown and the little bits of blue and green. Beautiful light too.
