Description

The Great Banded Skull-Crawler

The Great Banded Skull-Crawler is among the largest beasts that grow among Skull Island’s unique Bio-fauna. It has several large bands of black stripes along its forearms and smaller ones on the side of its spinal-vertebra.

This signals it to be one of the largest Skull-Crawler species. Surprisingly, Skull-Crawlers are not reptiles, but instead are a type of massive “Caecilian” – a species of rare legless amphibians. With the Skull-Crawlers, they are related to a two-legged class of southern-American amphibians called “Sirens”.

Among Skull Island however, the creature has evolved to massive size – this is in-prompt-to competition from other animals that feature immense gigantism, such the island’s Spiders, Bats, Birds, Insects and Apes.

The giant Mega-Octopi that inhabit Skull Island’s streams are natural predators to younger Skull-Crawlers unwary enough to be caught near the riverbed. Skull-Crawlers live a rather cryptic life, with their younger years spent underground, much like their tiny Caecilian cousins. But they will leave their steamy burrows and caves to take territories near waterways once they reach larger size.

Still, many fall victim to huge mega-predators such as giant Kumonga-Spiders and overly-territorial Mega-Apes. Skull-Crawlers have several rows of in-turned-needle-like teeth and sport a sticky tongue that can be shot outward like their frog relatives.

This helps them capture prey that might be too agile or evading for other predators on the island. As of yet, no one knows how large these gigantic Olms can grow, but it is said some Skull-Crawlers have been sighted that are the length of three school buses!

Skull Island Uncharted:

Skull Island is a grand island indeed that has natural deposits of mysterious iron-ore, which in tow with certain elements, form continuous mist and fog as it comes in contact with salty-sea water.

When the fog builds up, as it often does, it will give rise to un-dumped humidity and this will cause storms to form along the outside of the island’s coastal regions that creates an external barrier to the mysterious island.

This unique, almost supernatural phenomenon has made the island one of the most hidden places on earth, despite its grandiose size.

For centuries, wayward explorers and lost cargo boats have braved the mysterious fog and rampant storm-fronts, only to crash among the shores of Skull Island.

Many Victorian-age boats have even gotten past the dangerous shorelines and have floated past inland rivers, where some of these ancient galleons can still be seen as age-old relics of the brave.

Those fortunate or unfortunate enough to survive; experienced life as desolate castaways in a truly nightmarish land where evolution has gone mad!

Skull Island is separated into two distinctive regions.

One, is a super-vast rainforest. This region is nestled behind the western side of the island amid a gigantic valley, where most of Skull Island’s humidity falls.

It is also fairly close to an ancient wall, created by an advanced civilization from some by-gone era.

This region hosts an entire menagerie of wildlife, which consists of dinosaurs and giant insects.

It sports wide crevasses and each particular anomaly of this dream-like jungle has its own bio-fauna for each distinctive realm.

It is littered with dark insect pits, foliage-strangled rain-forests, and bamboo-covered mountain regions.

Twenty-five foot Gorillas, huge Sauropod reptiles and thirty-foot-tall V-Rex Tyrannosaurs roam these ominous jungle paths.

The other part of Skull Island is its biggest region, which is composed of vast grasslands, wide, sprawling plateaus and gregarious hillsides. It is here that the truly gigantic beasts roam.

Mega-apes near one hundred-feet-tall dwarf the giant Silver-back Gorillas of Skull Island’s low-land rainforests.

In tow, the giant Kumonga-Spiders or "Mama-Long-Legs" of the plateaus, dwarf even the largest denizens of the insect pits.

The Savannahs of Skull Island are surrounded by extreme drops from numerous steep hills. At first glance it might appear not unlike the regions of tropical south-east Asia, but it is more like the American Yellowstone Park with its thermal underground vents and subtropical appeal.

Among its wildlife are scores of bat-like creatures that roam the sky in vast flocks, while the marshes harbor many over-sized mammals such as the giant Water Buffalo and bizarre insect species, including the super-sized Mantis-Walking-Stick, ever camouflaged to ambush their prey.

The rivers house deadly mega-fish as well as humongous squid and giant octopus.

…No one knows why such extreme manifestations of gigantism exist here, but some speculate that a natural form of radiation may be emanating through the island that might explain why the typical gigantism of island-evolution has had such a deviant twist.
