Description My side of an art trade with <3
It seems I got it done A LOT faster than I thought I would. hehe...>.>

Lithuania versus Russia. Even though poor Liet got knocked off his horse and injured he's not going to give up so easily.

Anyway, I really hope you like it. I'm not 100% satisfied with it. There are a TON of things wrong. Like Liet's hand....not sure what's going on there....And my FAIL background.

Also, the uniforms are not historically accurate at ALL. I was to lazy to go research so I kind of just pulled them out of my head. It seemed faster and they still look nice so....I dunno....No one be angry with my fail.

And I haven't drawn a horse in like......4 years....I have to say though....It's not that bad....

it's nice. it reminds me of a black knight versus a white knight but instead of always fighting they are fighting over the white knights freedom. if he losses then he is never free but if he wins he's free to do whatever he wishes.

This is a beautiful piece and its execution is wonderful; I also like the over-the-shoulder shot and the dynamic movement suggested by the billowing coat and the pose of the horse's hooves. That... could not have been easy. Or maybe it was, and your grasp of foreshortening and animal anatomy is just excellent! Even the diagonal line drawn from tree to Toris creates movement. Well done.

If I have criticism, it is minor. But here are my points:
The blurriness (Liet's left hand/arm, primarily) is distracting. If you were meaning to mimic a camera focusing on the background, then the trees should also be crisp, and Liet's hair and the detail of the epaulets would also be blurrier.)
Like I say, I love that horse. For contrast, however, I'd make him a lighter color, since Russia's coat and boots are so dark. Not white, since the background is chock full of that, but there are plenty of colors in between. I would also make him kicking up some snow; it'd be churning after all!

Incidentally I think the pose of Liet's left hand looks fine. It seemed to me like he'd just gotten up and is balancing himself as he readies to defend or counter.

Thank you so much!!
If not for comments like these I don't even think of things like that.

And the blur there. I spent about, (and I'm not joking) 10 minutes adding it and taking it away, over and over wondering if it looked good. Obviously I made the wrong choice. But oh, well. Too late now.

Also, I'm horrible at drawing my character's interacting with the background. I tried to make snow kicking up or whirling around but I failed miserably.

Other than that, thank you very much! Usually I don't like criticism but you're was very well written and didn't make me feel horrible about my artistic abilities. ^^

There is absolutely no reason for you to feel "horrible" about your ability; it puts many people to shame I'm sure. It's also gratifying to hear that you did consider the very things I nitpicked about. Take it as encouragement that you weren't crazy, those tiny details did matter, and you just flipped the coin to land on the wrong side.

Ideally criticism is meant to be constructive -- and technically can even be entirely positive! I'm glad you're reacting well to it, and you are welcome.

Yeah...I tried once again after you're comment to rework the background....and failed even worse. So what you see there is the best of my abilities at this point.

Anyway, I know criticism is supposed to be constructive....but I just don't take it well...

Then you have increased twice: more practice with backgrounds (even if it didn't work out), and more practice taking criticism well.

Normally I don't like the combination of these two, but I have to say that this art is good.

If there's one thing I love in this, it's the perspective - I think it's cool how you have us looking over Toris' shoulder like that
