Description
  • The Grand ASHWORTH Fortune: Volume 01, Chapter 04 - Duke Vienna vs. Stream The Hawk

  • Format: Western, reading from LEFT to RIGHT

Woo! Go swing that rapier like you know baby!!

Anyway Buffer was one of his partners in crime that served the No-Origin-Faction. Out of the 8 in the team Buffer has a bitter temper that could easily transform into a chaotic disaster when he is in RAGE mode. He is one of the power-houses out of the eight but according to Duke he was killed by the captain himself! What's going on here?!

Anyway thanks for sharing with me your feedback on the previous page! I will do my best to make replies!

    And man oh man... Stream looks so helpless there... <_>;;

Its the same as Ashworth fortune? lol I've been tryin to get onto ashworth.darkspeeds.com for quite some time now, but I always got a "offline" message. oddly enough, I read the whole comic just two days before it went offline. So - the ashworth means more comics?

I used a normal waterbased ink pen to ink those pages - the tool is nothing fancy and can be bought anywhere in a stationery outlet.

Okay, I figured that I could comment on the last page of the comic instead of commenting on every page as I read through it.

I finally got the time to sit down at my computer and read every page of the Ashworth Chapters. I have to say that this by far is the greatest and most detailed, thought of comic I have ever truly read. Even some of the manga's that I read could not compare to this. I just love the whole fact of how we thought and thorough your characters and plot twists are.

From the very first page, I have fallen for Stream the Hawk and everything about him makes me giggle. I love the relationship that he and Ruby have together. Both of them together crack me up. ^^

I love the idea of how Stream and Duke have this alternate form when they are fighting. I think that is very unique, and it adds to the fighting effect. Your creativity definitely shines through in this comic. Your art truly inspires me to try to get more creative, and I can't wait to keep reading. I shall be awaiting for page 86.

A stream is starting to show a bit f his own story now
Alltough it's dragging me in with great intrest, you might want to check who's story will be more interesting, Stream's or Ruby's?

Giving a character a very intresting storyline could easely temp you and the reader to focus on him (wich is good), but if you want to keep focus on the main character, you'd have to either give the main character (Ruby) a more intresting story, or one intangled with stream's. Otherwise you'll wake up one day realizing Ruby's no longer your main character

Not that there's anything wrong with stream, offcourse... and this change of main character has been succesfull before. I myself are a big fan of the "Dragon Eye" manga, wich starded with the story about a girl named Leila who lost her parents to monsters ('Dracules', you'd have to read the manga)... Allready on the second part, the maker slightly started shifting his story towards her team captian (She's in a strike-force against these monsters) for being a far more intresting person...

    keep 'em comming!

ow, btw... is this "buffer" character in Stream's memory in overdrive as well, or does he just have those signs and lines over his face by nature?

hmm, I have been reading your comics for a while now and it does show promise. Though there is something that has been weighing on my mind about your art recently.

Even though you do have a very sonic like style of drawing it seems that your earlier work is better your recent ones. It's like you are only half into it or you have gone down hill suddenly.

I don't know if it's because of the stress of speeding through comic pages then putting a little more time into it. Or if its the fact that you are trying to do so with new characters instead of the usual sonic characters.

But besides that its has been pretty good so far.

Also make sure you dont crowd the page too much as it makes it too flashy then smoothe.

    Peace out.

    darkspeeds In reply to roxxy-chan [2008-07-23 06:04:28 +0000 UTC]

I object your opinion about the quality of my new comic pages. They have improved significantly with accordance to the manga industry standards of black+white/toned pages.

I don't pencil shade my comics because it is not attractive enough for the web-manga market I'm working with. If I were to have it published with a potential manga publisher in the States they will simply prefer the manga type pages, not the shaded works. It's a sad reality unfortunately.

Cheers for the feedback, good to know that the old shaded works are appreciated.

If you were not referring to the shaded works then I'm afraid your opinion on how the 'quality is going downhill' with the new manga styled pages is a little over exaggerated in my opinion.

Try reading ONE PIECE and see why it's art style is so successful. Even Hiro Mashima is following in his footsteps with his brand new sensation that is FairyTale. If you go even further back DBZ was another prime example.

All these titles under the Shonen (Boy's) titles (usually of action/adventure) was successful because of the clarity of the action and drama portrayed on each page. You'll notice that there is little or no screen tones used at all! XD

That's just a tip for ya from my experience flicking through hundreds of manga titles other than the ones mentioned above. *thumbs up*

The 'Bday gift for vickie-believe' page is not bad. If you weren't lazy with the backgrounds then it would have looked stunning! = )

    roxxy-chan In reply to darkspeeds [2008-07-23 07:00:09 +0000 UTC]

As with the Vicki bday pic. Yes I know ^^. Only had four hours to finish it in so I wasn't as detailed as I would have liked, which is a shame as I do prefer to take my time doing people gifts for bdays (usually not so dark either lol).

No I am refer to the shaded work. Though B&W and tones are more widely used in the manga of today I dont feel like it can grasp the beauty of a more traditional shading style, like the pencils you used to use. There are comics out there that still keep to these traditional shading methods and they do look wonderful. I guess in this case it may be personal bias however.

Maybe rather than using lots of tones it might help to make the ones you use not as bold and distracting? That way you can keep the clarity of the B&W and not make things so busy it is hard to straight away "read" what the characters are doing (like in the final panel). White space can be a good thing too. not trying to be objectionable just thought I would put my two cents in. Good luck in your comic endeavours

    πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

    darkspeeds In reply to roxxy-chan [2008-07-23 08:00:09 +0000 UTC]

Ah the white space is something that I need to implement for my future chapters. I need to give my pages some breathing space so that the reader can just sit back and appreciate some of the more built up scenes in the story.

I'm gauging 40% use of tones at the moment. I'm try to use as little as I can cuz not only does it take more time to screentone but as you said the B+w white in itself sometimes stands out more on it's own.

I do miss the traditional shading method but I need to adapt and move on to what' required of the industry. In fact I'm starting to get used to and am falling in love with this black and white style. ^^ I still have the best of both worlds because for ever PIN-UP to a particular chapter I pencil shade the drawing. *thumbs up*

Is this where we are all going to read them all from now on? Or will there be more Ashworth comic books out, so we can get a copy of the story for ourselves? I'm just asking is all, cause I'd like to collect as many parts of the Ashworth series as possible. I need to learn as much about the series and characters as possible. But if your plan is to put all your comics on DA and the Ashworth site, I'll read them there.

Pretty much you can keep up to date with the comic via TGAF official website - that's where all the new web-manga pages are submitted!

DeviantART will be used as a feedback forum where fans can discuss about certain aspects on why they like/dislike about a particular page.

They can also share with me tips on improving the comic or picking out errors with my grammar/spelling in my dialogue! ^_~

The book will be available when 190-220 or so pages are completed - that will form the guideline for a complete volume.
