Description Yes! Finally I've reached the finals of my first semester!!

Nevertheless I had an amazing time at the Academy of Art university, I've got four more major assignments to complete before I can enjoy my winter break!

This assignment is going to be graded by Carla Crawford who is my instructor for Figure Drawing (Foundation 112 class) on the Thursday. She's been an amazing teacher - passionate, caring and super talented fine arts artist. She knows how to have fun and be a pro when she's teaching in class - all of my classmates have decided to get her a thank you card and chocolates as a gift cuz she's been so sweet to us.

Anyways back to work (and listening to PROJECT 24 - which is happening right now)! Enjoy the sketches - you may recognise some of the other cartoons/characters besides Sonic! And if you must know, everything's been drawn on a Utrecht 9 x 12 Sketchbook (medium tooth surface for charcoal, pencil, pen and pastel) with Faber Castell graphite pencils and Sharpie fine point pens.

Thanks!

Oh nice! It's not going to easy but you'll definitely learn ALOT if you put in the time - I guarantee that.

What program are you going for?

Cool to know! Your foundation years will give you a taste of what's to offer on both disciplines. Be sure to check out Visual Development as well, it's just recently been added to the curriculum and it's run by Miguel who used to work at Disney Studios!

Oh wow really? I'll have to look that up. Yes I went to an open house two weeks ago and they mention how I should also try Visual Development. I'll be taking my first year online until I can afford to live in San Francisco.

^^ It's all so well drawn!

May I ask you what is what your teacher told you as advice for making this sketchbook? And who is the old man on the top of the page? Is somehow familiar to me... and is so well drawn too!

Oh! You know what? AΒ new art academyΒ which is called "Romaral Art"Β is about to open in my street! I can't wait, because it would be wonderful taking some painting and drawing lessons almost in front of my home! ^^

Focus on halfway points, tilts, proportions, plumb lines and foreshortening - a lot of techniques to be utilised to create the perfect replica of the original drawing/illustration that we used as reference.

That old man is from an 'how to draw' instruction book that I downloaded from a friend of mine. There is a ton of amazing human/portrait drawings done by that artist!

Oh wow, and so you should! You guys in Europe are born to do art of all facets. Seriously there is not better place to paint or draw than where you are right now. I'd love to see some stuff from you Isabel!

^___^ Really? I didn't know that you think like that about art in Europe!
When I'm ready to spend quality time making some "serious" stuff I'll show it to you. I promise! Remember it!

Aaaand I'll be probably asking you for some advices, since you are really reaching a professional level!

I LOVE the way you draw the Bone characters, and the Tintin style isn't half bad either! I had no idea you were so good at all these different art styles... You're amazing!!!

Ha ha, that is a compliment not to be taken lightly.

Thank you Evan!

I may have improved on my observational drawing and understanding of anatomy but I still got a long ways to go AND the real challenge is to draw from imagination... X_X;

So...much...drawings...to...look...&...critique!!! AAAH!!!

May I also advise in putting a mature filter since at least part of your drawings contains
a form of nudity (E.g. the breast of a woman), as a precaution for other younger viewers.

Upon looking at the rough pose sketches, I have noticed some issues to consider,
such as tangent lines along the arms that create an ambiguous effect & can be solved simply by creating overlapping shapes.
For the rough sketch poses without the face features, how long did you draw those?
Also consider the size proportions on the human body,
since your drawings of the lady's pose has her calf legs the same width as her arms & her thighs beings the same width as her torso.
That's all the critiques I have for the moment.

Stay strong within those last portions of your FINALS.
And that was very nice of you & your classmates to give your teachers thanks.
Nice to see cartoon characters that I could recognize, esp. the three hedgehogs at the very bottom right from the pull-out posters magazine.

& Most likely I'm in the Bay area this weekend for a few days.
& as always, best of luck!!!

Dude let me know and we can go out for lunch or something.Β

And thanks for the critique! I appreciate the insight and tips.

This exercise that we had was a combination of observational drawing and application of what we learnt in Figure Drawing. We had to use references for all of our drawings to study the half-way points, tilts, proportions, foreshortening etc...

The quick study of poses were actually from this artist:Β darkspeeds.deviantart.com/art/…

So the proportions were slightly more exaggerated than IRL. = )

That Sonic posters pic done by Spaz - I tried to replicate it to what the current editor would like to see - staying true to the canon design of SEGA Sonic. I guess that's where my greatest strength will be should I get a spot being a production artist there - being able to draw in canon to the SEGA Sonic characters and environments.
