Everybody has different reasons of shipping them Like, there are hints of this becoming canon in one of the episodes, a lot of people ship them because of that
I started shipping them after reading some really cool fanfics of them Also, I really love the colors they have as it is my favorites!! ^^ 
So, yeah, people each have their own opinion on what to ship and why they do it. I do it mostly because of the colors and fanfics ^^ But if someone requests it, 
then I will draw other ships as well c:

Personally, I don't see any chemistry between them.....besides, the teasers clearly show Lapis HATES Peridot....And the only reason she stopped that Homeworld machine was to protect Steven......all I do know, is that if she bullies Peridot, or hurts her Physically......
