Description Yello and welcome to Darqx colouring basix! The first tutorial i've ever made.

Some of you wanted to know how i coloured some of my pics so here's the tutorial that'll show you how. Unfortunately the Flash document screwed up the quality of my pics so they wont be that great. Grrr

This kind of colouring works best with anime/cute type drawings but it can be used for anything your imagination throws your way.

Anyway! Hope this helps out in some way. If you have any questions or need clarifying on some stuff just note me or something kay.

Gaz [my model ] is (c) JCV

Tutorial yes
It's a really old and shoddy one though XD;, i would update it with the new way i colour but i cant be bothered lol

Sorry i dont know any places to get free versions of photoshop but i'm sure if you googled it or used some sort of file-share program you could probably find some yourself ~

No problem , although i have to say you'll probably find a much better and easier way of colouring if you keep searching DA tutorials. I know i certainly have changed my colouring style since the tutorial

And best wishes for your future photshop pics

This looks really great so far! I like the flash setup of it, it makes it much easier. though my computer likes to crash when I try'n'load flash, so I can't really see it all, but I might use it when I get my mac.

I MISS COMPUTER COLOURING OHMIE

first of all, i like that picture of gaz a lot, and second, WOW this made me realize how stupid i am, even with directions i cannot do it

Darqx In reply to Locksy-V [2004-10-02 10:02:08 +0000 UTC]

LoL your not stupid...your advanced

Well this is only the way i colour, so maybe your having problems cos your not familair with it. You always have your own style of colouring to rely on.

Heh, neat tutorial. If ya like, I have a tip...it makes the 'flasts' coloring layer a tad bit easier. For that layer, you go just beneath the tabs for 'layers' and whatnot to where there's the dropdown box that says 'normal'...switch that to 'multiply' and that allows you to color right over the black lines. The color only shows up on the white, and the black remains as crisp 'n clean as it ever was without any of the white stuff. I did a lil pic to show, 'cause it's really hard to properly explain: [link]
Many thanks goes to Yumegari for that method. Hehehe
I like the pic of gaz, by the way. It's always awesome to see the zim charas drawn in these different styles. ^^

Move Zig, move zig...
This would be absoloutely fabulous if I had Photoshop. And I used to have this other program that was good, but my dad deleted it. Oh well, one day when I actually get Photoshop, I remember these words, 'All your base-', uh... no not those words... oh forget it.

Yay.. finished product... I do like your technique of doing each step on a separate layer.. makes tweaking it later a lot easier.

Ryivhnn In reply to puremyth [2004-10-02 00:49:08 +0000 UTC]

no other way of doing things that i know of

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

puremyth In reply to Ryivhnn [2004-10-02 14:40:37 +0000 UTC]

I keep things separate on layers as much as possible, but it's actually never occurred to me to shade on a separate layer. Probably seems strange to you cause you work with drawings a lot, and I work with photos.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Ryivhnn In reply to puremyth [2004-10-03 03:29:42 +0000 UTC]

hehe fair enough

i used to texture and shade on seperate layers, then i developed the colouring style ive got now which involves using the smudge tool a lot. Spratti here does more cel shading stuff (so much better than i can) hence the soft brush seperate layer approach which yep does mean she can move the shadows around if she needs to

Ryivhnn [2004-10-01 15:34:49 +0000 UTC]

looks good Spratty the images pixellated slightly as yo probably noticed but shit happens. still ran good and looks good and was easy enough to follow (although i have the unfair advantage of knowing what im doing etc )

am sure people will find it handy and its a good method of colouring
