Description This is the Sideshow Lord of the Rings Strider/Aragorn figure. it was a good figure, but I was never happy with how 'new' the clothing looked... much too much like a toy that had just come out of a box, and the paint job on the head sculpt (which was actually a good sculpt under there) wasn't the best.

I repainted the head, and went to work on distressing and weathering the clothes. I used sandpaper, scalpel blades, screwdriver heads... anything I could find that would work... to make the clothing look 'worn'. I made the lower edges uneven and rough to look like they'd been dragged over the ground for years, and got rid of the plastic shine from the outer coat.

The inner clothes were stitched to be a tighter fit, and painted using watered down acrylics to be the correct colours (they were far too bright), and then i used many layers of different coloured acrylics to simulate dust, mud, water etc on all the clothes. Drybrushed, washed on, splattered... anything that would work.

This was one of my first customs, and one that I was very proud of! (shame I had to sell it, along with most of the others to help pay for my wedding last year) *snif*

Ah well, I'll just have to get another and do another one for myself!! hehe

Nice work!
I did some similar paint jobs with his duster and jerkin - plus, I covered up that patch on the right sleeve with with a more proper arm-guard - as seen on the actual costume.
I have pics of it in my gallery.

yeah sorry, I'd been so busy working on sculpting & painting commissions that I'd been deliberately staying away from some websites to give me more time to work. That's why I took so long to reply to a few comments on here.

thanks again though
